  1. 41. In the wake of a bird - Quantifying aerodynamic performance of avian flight

    Author : Marco Klein Heerenbrink; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; animal flight; flight performance; gliding; powered flight; wing morphology; aerodynamics; biomechanics; birds; jackdaw; Corvus monedula; wind tunnel; PIV;

    Abstract : Flight is an expensive form of locomotion, but also offers the ability to travel great distances at relatively low cost. Birds have developed various adaptations for optimizing flight performance. The main aim of this thesis is to identify how morphological variables in birds affect aerodynamic drag and flight performance. READ MORE

  3. 43. Effect of Ventilatory Support on Abdominal Fluid Balance in a Sepsis Model

    Author : Marco Lattuada; Göran Hedenstierna; Filip Fredén; Anders Oldner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mechanical ventilation; lymph flow; spontaneous breathing; positive end-expiratory pressure; PEEP; abdominal edema; inflammation; intra-abdominal pressure; IAP; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care; Clinical Physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : In patients affected by acute respiratory failure or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) the leading cause of death is failure of different vital organs other than the lungs, so called multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The abdominal organs have a crucial role in the pathogenesis of this syndrome. READ MORE

  4. 44. Quantitative methods for diffusion measurements in fluorescence microscopy

    Author : Marco Longfils; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross-validation.; single particle tracking; Confocal laser scanning microscopy; raster scan; correlation spectroscopy; mixture models; diffusion;

    Abstract : In this work, statistical methods are developed for mapping mass transport locally based on images collected using a confocal laser scanning microscope. Besides presenting raster image correlation spectroscopy as an established method in fluorescence microscopy, we introduce a single particle tracking method which takes advantage of the raster scanning of the image in a confocal microscope. 5. 45. Raster Image Analysis of Diffusion via Single Particle Methods

    Author : Marco Longfils; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion; single particle tracking; raster scan; confocal laser scanning microscopy; image correlation spectroscopy; raster scan;

    Abstract : Soft biomaterials are widely used in many application areas, spanning from packaging materials to pharmaceuticals. To enhance their functionalities, understanding the interplay between microstructure and mass transport properties in these materials is fundamental. READ MORE
