16. Molecular Markers and Hypoxia in Renal Cell Carcinoma
Abstract : Renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) are a group of tumours that arise from the nephron within the kidney. They are characterised by an indolent growth pattern and do not display overt clinical symptoms in patients with early to locally advanced tumours. READ MORE

17. Developmental Neurotoxicity of Environmental Pollutants : Effects on neuronal protein markers after neonatal exposure
Abstract : This thesis focused on investigations of the developmental neurotoxic effects of bisphenol A (BPA) or perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), after a single neonatal exposure, during a critical period of the brain development in mice.BPA is a well-known industrial chemical used in the production of polymer products and PFHxS is used as an industrial additive as a surfactant. 18. Epidemiology of venous thromboembolism with focus on risk markers
Abstract : Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a vascular disease with an incidence of approximately 140 cases per 100,000 person-years in adults. The incidence of VTE has increased over the last decades, and more than 20% of affected individuals die in the first year after diagnosis. READ MORE

19. Prognostic markers and DNA methylation profiling in lymphoid malignancies
Abstract : In recent years, great progress has been achieved towards identifying novel biomarkers in lymphoid malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), at the genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic level for accurate risk-stratification and prediction of treatment response. In paper I, we validated the prognostic relevance of a recently proposed RNA-based marker in CLL, UGT2B17, and analyzed its expression levels in 253 early-stage patients. READ MORE

20. Characterization and Use of a Multiplex PCR-based System: Random amplified Polymorphic DNA
Abstract : Random amplified polymorhic DNA (RAPD) is a PCR-based marker system that makes use of universal sets of short oligonucleotides that amplify random DNA fragments under low-stringency conditions. The RAPD marker system has found widespread use and possesses a number of very positive features, being a multiplex and universal system. READ MORE
