  1. 1. Assessment of existing and potential developments of district-heating systems

    Author : Elsa Fahlén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biofuel; external costs; combined heat and power; socio-economic cost-effectiveness; district heating; ExternE; social costs; MARTES; bio transport fuel; biomass gasification;

    Abstract : District heating (DH) may play an important role for achieving the EU goal of a secure, competitive and sustainable energy supply. DH benefits from the possibilities of utilising local resources such as municipal solid waste and other low-quality fuels, as well as low-cost waste heat from industries and from combined heat and power plants (CHP). 2. 2. Cooperation and conflict during reproduction in polyterritorial wood warblers (Phylloscopus sibilatrix)

    Author : Susanne Stenius; Trond Amundsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoologi; Zoology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the reproductive strategies of male and female wood warblers are studied. Males which arrived early to the breeding grounds had higher reproductive success than later males. This was due to early males more often mating polygynously than late males. READ MORE

  3. 3. The return of the wolf : effects on prey, competitors and scavengers

    Author : Camilla Wikenros; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Apex predators may have both direct and indirect effects on other species through predation and competition. I investigated the effects of wolves (Canis lupus) on prey species, competitors (including humans) and the scavenging guild after the re-colonization by wolves of the Scandinavian Peninsula. 4. 4. Assessing District-Heating Sustainability – Case Studies of CO2 Mitigation Strategies and Environmental Cost Accounting

    Author : Elsa Fahlén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; absorption cooling; biomass gasification; bio transport fuel; policy instruments; carbon dioxide; external costs; combined heat and power; district heating and cooling;

    Abstract : District heating (DH) may play an important role in achieving the EU goal of a secure, competitive and sustainable energy supply. Integrated energy solutions based on technologies, such as biomass gasification for transport fuel, electricity and heat production and heat-driven absorption cooling, create new optimisation possibilities through the linkage between heat, power, cooling and transport fuel markets which may reduce the global warming contribution of the energy sector.
