1. Mixed connective tissue disease, myositis and systemic lupus erythematosus : immunological and genetic studies in three related rheumatic autoimmune studies
Abstract : Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), polymyositis (PM)/ dermatomyositis (DM) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are chronic, rheumatic, systemic inflammatory disorders. The disorders depend on several factors of both genetic and environmental origin. READ MORE

2. Immunogenetic markers in immune mediated diseases
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study HLA class II markers, as well as other - MHC and non MHC genes in different immune - mediated diseases, namely, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), cervical cancer, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and type I diabetes mellitus (T1 DM). HLA class II genes are located on the short arm of chromosome 6 and are known to be important for pathogenesis of immune-mediated diseases due to the function of the molecules these genes encode. 3. Phospholipid related antigens and protective mechanisms : implications for cardiovascular diseases, human autoimmunity and inflammation
Abstract : The pathogenesis of chronic inflammation, a common denominator in cardiovascular, metabolic and systemic autoimmune diseases, is influenced by a number of genetic, metabolic and immunological risk factors. Oxidation of cellular membranes and lipoproteins by reactive oxygen species generates a number of complex and distinct oxidized phospholipids (OxPL) thought to be involved in this pathogenesis.
