  1. 31. The cell cycle of the hyperthermophilic archaeal genus Sulfolobus

    Author : Karin Hjort; Patrick Dennis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; Cell cycle; Sulfolobus; Archaea; Origin; Replication; SIRV2; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The third domain of life, Archaea is one of the three main evolutionary lineages together with the Bacteria and the Eukarya domains. The archaea are, despite their prokaryotic cell organisation, more closely related to eukaryotes than to bacteria in terms of the informational pathways (DNA replication, transcription and translation). 2. 32. The balance of splicing : A novel insight into the splicing regulation of high-risk HPV E6 and E7 oncogenes

    Author : Johanna Jönsson; Naoko Kajitani; Stefan Schwartz; Ola Forslund; Francesca Aguilo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HPV; splice donor; splice acceptor; cis-element; trans-acting factor; pre-mRNA splicing; splicing regulation.; Medical Virology; Medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : HPV is associated with several cancers. The genome consists of a long control region, early (E1, E2, E4, E5, E6 and E7) and late (L1 and L2) genes. The E6 and E7 proteins prevent cells from entering apoptosis and regulate the cell cycle. A deregulated expression of these can result in malignant transformations. READ MORE

  3. 33. Infection control of Staphylococcus aureus : spa typing to elucidate transmission

    Author : Sara Mernelius; Andreas Matussek; Sture Löfgren; Per-Eric Lindgren; Anders Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Staphylococcus aureus is a commensal of the human flora, primarily colonizing the anterior nares and throat, but it may also cause infections ranging from mild skin and soft tissue infections to severe diseases such as endocarditis and septicemia. S. READ MORE

  4. 34. Molecular determinants of disease severity in urinary tract infection

    Author : Ines Ambite; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymptomatic bacteriuria; urinary tract infection; acute pyelonephritis; cystitis; Escherichia coli 83972; host response; NlpD; RNA Polymerase II; transcription regulation; inflammasome; Il-1β; ASC; NLRP-3; hyper-inflammatory disorder; MMP-7; IL-1RA; genetic susceptibility; IRF-7; siRNA therapy; P fimbriae; type 1 fimbriae;

    Abstract : In the urinary tract, Escherichia coli infection may result in life-threatening disease, or asymptomatic bacterial carriage, comparable to bacterial commensalism in the gut. Pathogenic strains trigger a disease provoking host response which differs depending on the infected organ. READ MORE

  5. 35. Demographics, clinical features and treatment of pediatric celiac disease

    Author : Dimitrios Tapsas; Karin Fälth-Magnusson; Elisabet Hollén; Steffen Husby; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic small intestinal immune-mediated enteropathy triggered by ingestion of gluten-containing food in genetically predisposed subjects. The enteropathy is presented with a wide variety of clinical manifestations, which can occur even outside the gastrointestinal tract. READ MORE
