  2. 37. Proteomic profiles and gene expressions in the symbiotically competent cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. PCC 73102

    Author : Liang Ran; Birgitta Bergman; Karl Forchhammer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nostoc PCC 73102; hormogonia; 2-DE; symbiosis; photo-autotrophy; heterotrophy; cell differentiation; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Nostoc PCC 73102 is an evolutionary important cyanobacterium with multiple phenotypic traits and symbiotic capacities. Based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, a proteomic approach was developed in order to obtain protein profiles of this symbiotically competent cyanobacterium during three trophic types/life stages: free-living photo-autotrophic and diazotrophic growth conditions, dark heterotrophic conditions and hormogonium formation. 3. 38. Functional characterization of the small antisense RNA MicA in Escherichia coli

    Author : Klas Ifeanyi Udekwu; Gerhart Wagner; Tony Romeo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small RNA; antisense; outer membrane; Hfq-dependence; RNase III; LuxS; Quorum sensing; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The Escherichia coli small RNA (sRNA) MicA was identified recently in a genomewide search for sRNAs. It is encoded between the genes gshA and luxS in E. coli and its close relatives. The function of sRNAs in bacteria is generally believed to be in maintenance of homeostasis via stress-induced modulation of gene expression. READ MORE

    Abstract : Up to 100 million people travel annually from industrialized countries to resource-limited ones. Each traveller contains an internal ecosystem composed of tens of trillions of microbes, known as the intestinal microbiota, which has a large effect on health. READ MORE

    Abstract : Bluetongue virus (BTV) causes the primarily vector-borne bluetongue disease of ruminants, which poses a permanent threat to Europe since new serotypes and strains are frequently introduced. Vaccination of cattle is essential to control BTV outbreaks. READ MORE
