6. Lone parenting, socioeconomic conditions and severe ill-health : longitudinal register-based studies
Abstract : The general aims of this dissertation are to analyse how family situation, and especially lone parenting, influence health and life chances in Sweden and the extent to which possible relations are influenced by socioeconomic circumstances and health selection. In two population-based cohort studies we analysed overall and cause-specific mortality (1991-95), and also severe morbidity (1991-94) from different causes among lone mothers in comparison with mothers with partners. 7. Self-rated quality of life among unemployed people and people in work in northern Sweden
Abstract : Self-assessed quality of life (QoL) is analysed using a QoL questionnaire (Hörnquist’s QLcs)covering the life spheres: somatic health, mental well-being, cognitive ability, social and family life,activity, financial situation, meaning in life and a global score for ‘entire life’. In all, 487unemployed and 2917 employed subjects aged 25-64; and 651 unemployed subjects and 2802 inwork (including employment, studying and military service) in the 18-24 age group, wereinvestigated in a population-based cross-sectional study on life and health in northern Sweden in1997. Abstract : This thesis presents perspectives of men regarding abortion, contraceptive use and sexuality. Contrary to what we had expected, men expressed anxiety over abortion and contraceptive use, not because the issues concerned women’s health, but rather because men associated them with extramarital sexual activity they thought women were concealing. 9. Partner violence during pregnancy, psychosocial factors and child outcomes in Nicaragua
Abstract : The objectives of the thesis was to explore partner violence during pregnancy in Nicaragua – its prevalence and characteristics, how women perceive, understand and cope with it, its association with specific child outcomes such as low birth weight (LBW), small for gestational age (SGA) and preterm birth, and possible pathways. A cross-sectional community-based study was conducted with 478 pregnant women and for a sub-sample of 147 salivary cortisol was measured. READ MORE
