  1. 1. Genetic and epidemiological studies of hereditary colorectal cancer

    Author : Kristina Cederquist; Henrik Grönberg; Irina Golovleva; Gösta Holmgren; Mef Nilbert; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Lynch syndrome; HNPCC; colorectal cancer; endometrial cancer; cancer risk; MSI; MLH1; MSH2; MSH6; genome-wide scan; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Lynch syndrome (Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer, HNPCC) is the most common hereditary syndrome predisposing to colorectal cancer, accounting for 1-3% of all colorectal cancer. This multi-organ cancer predisposition syndrome is caused by mutations in the mismatch repair (MMR) genes, especially MLH1 and MSH2, and to lesser extents MSH6 and PMS2, which lead to widespread genetic instability and thus microsatellite instability (MSI). 2. 2. Inflammation-associated genes and genetic variations in colorectal cancer

    Author : Nils Elander; Peter Söderkvist; Karin Fransén; Mef Nilbert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality around the world, each year affecting about one million individuals worldwide. The disease is characterized by an accumulation of genetic alterations, and a sequence of events leading to the development of an invasive and metastasising tumour. READ MORE

  3. 3. ASNA1 and cisplatin resistance : studies in C. elegans and in human tumor cells

    Author : Oskar Hemmingsson; Peter Naredi; Mef Nilbert; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Platinum based chemotherapy is widely used to treat cancer. Cisplatin (diamminedichloroplatinum) combination treatments provide cure for metastatic testicular cancer and prolong survival for patients suffering from ovarian, head and neck, bladder and non small cell lung cancer. 4. 4. Molecular alterations in colorectal cancer

    Author : Agneta Jansson; Mef Nilbert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer is one of the most common causes to death due to cancer in the world. It is important to understand the molecular mechanisms behind tumour development for both prognostic and therapeutic applications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Expression and Mutation Analyses of Candidate Cancer Genes In Situ

    Author : Sara Kiflemariam; Tobias Sjöblom; Fredrik Pontén; Mef Nilbert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; in situ; in situ hybridization; padlock probes; mRNA; tyrosine kinases; tyrosine phosphatases; fusion transcripts;

    Abstract : Cancers display heterogeneity in genetic profiles of the individual cancer cells and in the composition of different malignant and non-malignant cell populations. Such intra-tumor heterogeneity plays a role in treatment response and the emergence of resistance to cancer therapies. READ MORE
