  1. 1. On Mesoscale Modelling of Coupled Chloride-Moisture Transport in Concrete

    Author : Filip Nilenius; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coupled diffusion; concrete; moisture; mesoscale; chloride ions.; Multiscale modelling; computational homogenization;

    Abstract : The service life behaviour of concrete structures is highly influenced by the ingress of chloride ions. At sufficiently high concentrations, chloride ions can initiate corrosion of embedded reinforcement bars, which may substantially reduce the structure's bearing capacity and ultimately lead to structural collapse. 2. 2. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment. 3. 3. Crystallization on the Mesoscale : Self-Assembly of Iron Oxide Nanocubes into Mesocrystals

    Author : Michael Agthe; Lennart Bergström; German Salazar-Alvarez; Tommy Nylander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Self-assembly; iron oxide nanocubes; mesocrystal; small angle X-ray scattering; video microscopy; QCM-D; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Self-assembly of nanoparticles is a promising route to form complex, nanostructured materials with functional properties. Nanoparticle assemblies characterized by a crystallographic alignment of the nanoparticles on the atomic scale, i.e. mesocrystals, are commonly found in nature with outstanding functional and mechanical properties. 4. 4. Mesoscale Simulations of Atmospheric Flow in Complex Terrain

    Author : Matthias Mohr; Sergej Zilitinkevich; Leif Enger; Dieter P. Eppel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorology; Mesoscale modeling; Flow in complex terrain; Atmospheric dispersion; Model comparison; Boundary conditions; Numerical modeling; Atmospheric pressure; Gravity waves; Meteorologi; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : The MIUU mesoscale model was further developed, in order to include information on large-scale atmospheric fields from global or regional atmospheric climate- and weather-prediction models. For this purpose, a new lateral boundary condition was developed and implemented into the model. READ MORE

  5. 5. Moisture and Chloride Transport in Concrete

    Author : Filip Nilenius; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multiscale modelling; mass transport; coupled diffusion; statistical volume element; interfacial transition zone.; computational homogenization; mesoscale;

    Abstract : Material properties pertaining to the physical phenomena of mass transport in concrete are important for the durability of concrete structures, and they can ultimately be derived from material heterogeneities found at different subscales. On the mesoscale level, these heterogeneities are mainly characterized by the presence of embedded aggregates in the cement paste, together with cracks. READ MORE
