21. Regulation of bacterial adaptive behavior by the second messenger cyclic-di-GMP and host components
Abstract : To optimize survival and growth, bacteria have evolved adaptive behaviors that respond to relevant environmental signals. A switch from the motile to the sessile lifestyle is probably the most ancient behavioral transition of microorganisms. READ MORE

22. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion
Abstract : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2). 23. Distribution and connectivity of messenger molecules in the control of energy metabolism : focus on neuropeptides and calcium binding proteins
Abstract : Feeding is an essential and complex behavior which aims to provide the energy required for maintaining physiological homeostasis. The drive to feed is a powerful stimulus arising from metabolic demands, and reinforced by evolutionary pressure. READ MORE

24. Expression and regulation of neuronal messenger molecules : focus on the NO-cGMP pathway and galanin in autonomic and sensory neurons
Abstract : The autonomic nervous system consists of the sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric divisions. The sympathetic pre- and paravertebral neurons are in principle of noradrenergic phenotype. However, originally pharmacological experiments indicated that sympathetic fibers projecting to the sweat glands are cholinergic. READ MORE

25. Neuromuscular function in the normal and inflamed colon. An experimental study in rat
Abstract : Neuromuscular function of the longitudinal muscle layer of distal colon was investigated in segments from normal rats and from rats with colitis induced by dextran sulphate sodium (DSS) at 3% for 3 or 7 days or 5% for 7 days. The study was performed in vitro, on spontaneous tone, or after precontraction. READ MORE
