  1. 1. Biomarkers In Brain Tumors With Focus On Glioblastoma

    Author : Malgorzata Lysiak; Peter Söderkvist; Annika Malmström; Olle Stål; Mattias Belting; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma; MGMT; Biomarker; Sex differences; Androgen receptor; Loss of chromosome Y;

    Abstract : The primary brain tumors, gliomas, are not very common but they are deadly. Each year in Sweden around 500 patients will be diagnosed with a glioma and unfortunately most of them will have the most aggressive type, glioblastoma (GBM). Median survival, even if treated, is poor (14-17 months). READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental studies in brain tumours : with special regard to multidrug resistance and the ErbB-family

    Author : Ulrika Andersson; Roger Henriksson; Beatrice Malmer; Erik Blomquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; glioma; meningioma; endothelium; MDR; Pgp; MRP1; LRP; MGMT; EGFR; ErbB2; ErbB3; ErbB4; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; onkologi; Oncology;

    Abstract : Primary brain tumours, and especially the most common form malignant gliomas, usually display a pronounced resistance to other treatment modalities when surgery fails to cure. Growth factors, such as EGF and its receptor, frequently amplified and overexpressed in malignant gliomas, and factors associated with multidrug resistance have been suggested to at least partially explain the poor outcome. 3. 3. Molecular Signatures of Cancer

    Author : Esther Edlundh-Rose; Joakim Lundeberg; Peter Södervist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; : BRAF; NRAS; MGMT; methylation; pyrosequencing; microarray technology; gene expression analysis; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Cancer is an important public health concern in the western world, responsible for around 25% of all deaths. Although improvements have been made in the diagnosis of cancer, treatment of disseminated disease is inefficient, highlighting the need for new and improved methods of diagnosis and therapy. 4. 4. Studies of resistance factors against chloroethylnitrosourea drugs in malignant tumor cells

    Author : Suzanne Egyházi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : drug resistance 1; 3-bis 2-chloroethyl -1-nitrosourea O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase glutathione transferase glutathione lung cancer melanoma;

    Abstract : Drug resistance is a major clinical problem in the chemotherapy of tumor diseases and the identification of factors that make tumor cells resistant to drug treatment is therefore of crucial importance. We have investigated a possible involvement of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT), glutathione transferase (GST) and glutathione (GSH) in the resistance to 1,3- bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU) in two human lung cancer cell lines. 5. 5. O6-methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase and DNA mismatch repair in relation to drug resistance in malignant melanoma

    Author : Shuhua Ma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Melanoma; chemotherapy; dacarbazine; drug resistance; O6-methylguanineDNAmethyltransferase; DNA mismatch repair;

    Abstract : Although the survival rate of patients with malignant melanoma has improved, treatment of the disease poses large problems since disseminated melanoma frequently shows primary resistance to chemotherapy. Resistance to chemotherapy is thus a major clinical problem and a cause of failure in the treatment of metastatic malignant melanoma. READ MORE
