  1. 6. Immune and gene therapies for cancer and infectious diseases

    Author : Jehad Charo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Immunotherapy; gene therapy; cytokines; MHC-1; tucaresol; EBV; mycobacteria; HER-2; Tumors;

    Abstract : Annually more than 20 million deaths are globally caused because of infections or cancer. This accounts for 41.5% of annual deaths. New techniques are supposed to constitute our tools in the fight against these types of deaths. READ MORE

  2. 7. Immune cell infiltration and prognosis in colorectal cancer

    Author : Agnes Ling; Richard Palmqvist; Sofia Edin; Xingru Li; Ola Winqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; molecular subgroups; immune cell infiltration; immune escape; prognosis;

    Abstract : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is globally the second most common form of cancer among women, and third in men. It is also one of the most common causes of cancer-related death in high-income countries. Surgical resection is the basis for curative therapy but still almost half of the patients die from metastatic disease. READ MORE

  3. 8. Generation of Therapeutic T Cells for Prostate Cancer

    Author : Ole Forsberg; Magnus Essand; Thomas Tötterman; Gustav Gaudernack; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; T cells; dendritic cells; peptides; cytomegalovirus; adenovirus; immunotherapy; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : The work presented herein focuses on the activation of the adaptive immune system in order to develop T cell-based immunotherapy for viral infections and cancer. The main goal was to identify and activate viral or tumoral antigen-specific T cells by using different identification, isolation and stimulation techniques. READ MORE

  4. 9. Interplay between superantigens and immunoreceptors

    Author : Karin Lindkvist; Medicinsk strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; TCR; MHC class II; X-ray crystallography; superantigen; staphylococcal enterotoxin; Biofysik; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Biophysics;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the interactions between superantigens and their receptors. Superantigens are proteins that are secreted by various bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Superantigens are able to cross-link T cells and antigen presenting cells by binding to the T cell receptor (TCR) and MHC class II. READ MORE

  5. 10. Exosomes : immunomodulators in cancer and therapy

    Author : Stefanie Hiltbrunner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Exosomes are nano-sized membrane vesicles derived from the late endosomal compartment. They are capable of transferring proteins, lipids and RNA between cells. B cell and dendritic cell (DC)-derived exosomes express major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II, as well as costimulatory molecules (CD80/86) and can initiate T cell responses. READ MORE
