  1. 1. MHC polymorphism in a songbird : Fitness, mate choice, and sexual conflict

    Author : Jacob Roved; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Major histocompatibility complex; MHC diversity; MHC haplotypes; sexually antagonistic selection; costs of immune responses; adaptive immunity; great reed warbler; songbird;

    Abstract : Sex differences in immune responses have been observed across a wide range of animal species, with the generaltendency that males have weaker immune responses than females. These differences are at least partly caused by immune-regulating effects of sex hormones, and have been associated with an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders in females and with a general tendency for males to be parasitized more often than females. 2. 2. Evolution of MHC Genes and MHC Gene Expression

    Author : Karin Berggren Bremdal; Hans Ellegren; Jennifer Seddon; Philip Hedrick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; major histocompatibilty complex; dog leukocyte antigen; balancing selection; linkage disequilibrium; promoter; diabetes mellitus; Canis familiaris; Canis lupus; Erinaceus europaeus; Erinaceus concolor; Genetics; Genetik; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Polymorphism in coding regions and regions controlling gene expression is the major determinant of adaptive differences in natural populations. Genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) possess a high level of genetic variation, which is maintained by selection over long coalescence times. READ MORE

  3. 3. MHC diversity and expression in a songbird : Temporal and transgenerational variation

    Author : Samantha Mellinger; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MHC diversity; MHC-I gene expression; songbirds; genome assembly; amplicon HTS; temporal variation; family data; great reed warbler Acrocephalus arundinaceus ;

    Abstract : The immune system is of central importance to clear-off pathogens in order to keep an organism healthy. In vertebrates, the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) is a genomic region that holds key genes involved in adaptive immunity and in particular in the antigen presenting process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic Factors and Nasal Tolerance in Rat Models for Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Shemin Lu; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nasal tolerance; linkage analysis; MHC; genetics; pristane induced arthritis; rheumatoid arthritis; collagen induced arthritis; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : We used three animal models of rats for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in this study. Firstly, We found that CXI induced arthritis (CXIIA) is associated with the RT1 f haplotype and follows a chronic disease course affecting peripheral joints with both progression and relapses. READ MORE

  5. 5. MHC and Transgenic Mice. A study into polymorphism and function of class I and class II molecules

    Author : Mikael Vestberg; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MHC rat mouse transgenic autoimmunity collagen peptide; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi;

    Abstract : Transplantation antigens encoded in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) bind peptides and present them to T cells. We showed that mouse T cells expressing transgenic human CD8 can recognise human MHC class I. READ MORE
