16. Immunity and immunosuppression in the tumor-host interaction
Abstract : With the advent of new methods in molecular biology and in peptide isolation, a number of tumor-associated antigens and their epitopes have been identified and characterized. However, tumors often grow progressively evolving different mechanisms of immune escape, resulting in resistance to MHC class I-restricted tumor-specific T cells. READ MORE

17. Presentation of Salmonella antigens by dendritic cells
Abstract : This study investigates the interaction between dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative intracellular bacterium Salmonella typhimurium. Using in vitro and in vivo approaches, the capacity of DC to directly and indirectly present antigens from Salmonella-infected cells, cytokine production by infected DC, and activation of bacteria-specific T cells was analyzed. 18. Immunogene Therapy of Bladder Carcinoma : A Preclinical Study
Abstract : This thesis comprises studies on murine and human models of bladder carcinoma with the aim to develop novel immunogene therapies. On the basis of the results presented in this thesis, a clinical trial is underway. The potential of activating the immune system to combat cancer has long intrigued immunologists. READ MORE

19. Restoring antitumor immunity with dendritic cell reprogramming strategies. Reprogramming cancer cells to antigen-presenting cells
Abstract : For the past two decades, immunotherapy revolutionized cancer treatment. However, responses vary significantly among eligible patients and some cancer types are not yet open to immunotherapy. Several mechanisms contribute to immunotherapy resistance, including loss of antigen presentation machinery and immunosuppression. READ MORE

20. Immunity to Salmonella infection
Abstract : The immune system has several strategies to combat infections. The present study investigates various aspects of the interaction between Gram negative bacteria, particularly Salmonella, and antigen presenting cells (APC). Salmonella is an intracellular bacterium infecting mice and man. READ MORE
