  2. 12. Numerical Study of the Axisymmetric Ideal MHD Stability of EXTRAP

    Author : Michal Benda; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : A numerical study of the free-boundary axisymmetric (n=0) ideal magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) motions of the EXTRAP device is presented. The dependence of stability on current profiles in the plasma and currents in the external conductors is investigated. READ MORE

  3. 13. Resistive Wall Mode Stability and Control in the Reversed Field Pinch

    Author : Dmitriy Yadikin; Per Brunsell; Mikhail Gryaznevich; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resistive wall modes; RWM; active control; feedback; MHD modes; Reversed-Field pinch; RFP; intelligent shell; mode control; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : Control of MHD instabilities using a conducting wall together with external magnetic fields is an important route to improved performance and reliability in fusion devices. Active control of MHD modes is of interest for both the Advanced Tokamak and the Reversed Field Pinch (RFP) configurations. READ MORE

  4. 14. Pressure driven instabilities in the reversed-field pinch : numerical and theoretical studies

    Author : Ahmed Akram Mirza; Jan Scheffel; Roberto Paccagnella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion plasma; thermonuclear; Reversed-field pinch; resistive MHD; resistive g modes; thermal conduction; the boundary value theory;

    Abstract : According to classical linearized resistive magnetohydrodynamics theory, pressuredriven modes are unstable in the reversed-field pinch (RFP) due to unfavorable magnetic field line curvature. The result is based on the assumption of an adiabatic energy equation where anisotropic thermal conduction effects are ignored as compared to convection and compression. READ MORE

  5. 15. Turbulence-Assisted Planetary Growth : Hydrodynamical Simulations of Accretion Disks and Planet Formation

    Author : Wladimir Lyra; Nikolai Piskunov; Thomas Henning; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; accretion; accretion disks; hydrodynamics; instabilities; methods: numerical; solar system: formation; planets and satellites: formation; magnetohydrodynamics MHD ; turbulence; diffusion; stars: planetary systems: formation; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Abstract : The current paradigm in planet formation theory is developed around a hierarquical growth of solid bodies, from interstellar dust grains to rocky planetary cores. A particularly difficult phase in the process is the growth from meter-size boulders to planetary embryos of the size of our Moon or Mars. READ MORE
