  1. 6. Catanionic Surfactant Mixtures and Binary Systems of Modified Fatty Acid Surfactants. Phase Equilibria and Structure

    Author : Malin Bydén Sjöbom; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coacervation; asymmetry; bile salt; didodecyldimethylammonium bromide; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; catanionic surfactant mixture; intermediate phase; a-methylsubstituted sodium carboxylate; dodecylpyridinium bromide; ionic surfactant; polarizing microscopy; FT-PGSE self-diffusion; 2H NMR; SAXS; liquid crystal; micelle; phase equilibria; phase diagram;

    Abstract : Surfactant self-assembly is an important phenomenon that occurs in a number of processes in our everyday life. It is important to understand the forces and parameters that control and influence the self-assembly, as this knowledge can be used both in order to design surfactant systems with desired properties and for creating model systems, for example for biological processes. 2. 7. Electrostatic Interactions in Complex Liquids : A Thermodynamic Analysis Based on the Poisson-Boltzmann Equation and the Flexible Surface Model

    Author : Ingemar Carlsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AOT; AerosolOT; ionic surfactant; spontaneous curvature; bending modulus; bending energy; Helfrich curvature energy; fluid membrane; complex liquid; flexible surface model; micelle; counterion; Poisson-Boltzmann equation; cell model; L3 phase; sponge phas; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to analyse physico-chemical properties of some complex liquids using the Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) cell model; to extend the theory to cover bilayer systems with complex global geometry; finally to apply this new extended model to such bilayer systems. The PB cell model provides a practical tool to examine counterion association and phase behaviour for structures of simple geometries; cylindrical and spherical. READ MORE

  3. 8. Organic reactions in self-organized surfactant systems

    Author : Fredrik Currie; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic synthesis; kinetics; micelle; regioselectivity; microemulsion;

    Abstract : The aim of this work has been to investigate how microemulsions and micellar systems can be used as reaction media to overcome reactant incompatibility, enhance reaction rates and especially to control product composition, i.e., introducing regioselectivity, in organic synthesis. Abstract : The thesis presents work regarding amphiphilic molecules associated in aqueous solution or at the liquid/solid interface. Two main topics are included: the temperature-dependent behavior of micelles and the adsorption of dispersants on carbon nanotube (CNT) surfaces. READ MORE

  5. 10. Multifunctional Dendritic Scaffolds: Synthesis, Characterization and Potential applications

    Author : Yvonne Hed; Michael Malkoch; Mats Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dendrimer; AB2C monomer; Click chemistry; CuAAC; thiol-ene coupling chemistry; TEC; linear dendritic hybrids; micelle; hydrogel; bone adhesive;

    Abstract : The development of materials for advanced applications requires innovative macromolecules with well-defined structures and the inherent ability to be tailored in a straightforward manner. Dendrimers, being a subgroup of the dendritic polymer family, possess properties which fulfill such demands. READ MORE
