1. Organics in hydrothermal fluids from ultramafic-hosted vents of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge
Abstract : The process of serpentinization at slow spreading ridges is due to the circulation of seawater through outcropping mantle rocks. The peridotites of the mantle are altered via fluid-rock interaction generating, in the presence of Fe bearing minerals, high CH4- and H2-concentrations in the water column. READ MORE

2. Origin of organic compounds in fluids from ultramafic-hosted hydrothermal vents of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge
Abstract : Natural gas, primarily methane (CH4), is produced in substantial amounts in ultramafic-hosted hydrothermal systems. These systems could also generate oil (heavier hydrocarbons) and the first building blocks of life (prebiotic molecules). In the presence of iron bearing minerals, serpentinisation reactions generate H2. READ MORE

4. Paleoenvironmental significance of Baltic and North Atlantic late neogene benthic foraminifera
Abstract : This thesis is a summary of six previously published or submitted articles on (1) the significance of the geographic distribution of Recent benthic foraminifera in the Baltic Sea and the central North Atlantic, and (2) the significance of the stratigraphic distribution of Pliocene benthic foraminifera from the Blake Plateau, western North Atlantic.Recent benthic foraminifera in the Baltic Sea have a geographic distribution strongly correlated to the highly variable hydrographical conditions. 5. Seismicity and crustal structure in Iceland
Abstract : The main goal of this Ph.D. thesis is to improve locations of earthquake hypocenters and to resolve heterogeneous crustal structure and its effects on travel times. The data and case studies are drawn from the Icelandic national SIL network and the temporary NICE project deploy-ment in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. READ MORE
