  1. 6. Candida albicans adaption to host microenvironments drives immune evasion

    Author : José Pedro Lopes; Constantin F. Urban; Alistair Brown; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fungi; candida albicans; neutrophils; mast cells; immune evasion; mycoses; infectious diseases; immunologi; Immunology; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar; Molecular Immunology; molekylär immunologi;

    Abstract : Immunosuppressed patients are frequently afflicted with severe mycoses caused by opportunistic fungal pathogens. Besides being a commensal colonizing predominantly skin and mucosal surfaces, Candida albicans is the most common human fungal pathogen. READ MORE

  2. 7. Role of extracellular ATP in immune mechanisms against infections

    Author : Lalitha Tadala; Andrea Puhar; Sara I Wilson; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Mikael Sellin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Extracellular ATP; invasive bacteria; Shigella; Listeria; plasma membrane ruffle; PIEZO1; infection; immune response; Hanta virus; molekylär cellbiologi; molecular cell biology;

    Abstract : Inflammation is driven either by infection with pathogens or sterile stimuli, such as tissue damage or autoimmune diseases. Upon tissue damage, ATP is released passively from the dead or compromised cells. During stress, ATP can be secreted from the cells. Extracellular ATP (eATP) acts as an endogenous danger signal. 3. 8. Time-resolved Structural and Mechanistic Studies of Water Oxidation in Photosystem II : water here, water there, water everywhere

    Author : Casper de Lichtenberg; Johannes Messinger; Wolfgang P. Schröder; Holger Dau; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxygenic Photosynthesis; Photosystem II; TR-MIMS; isotope exchange; EPR; EDNMR; water splitting; water oxidation;

    Abstract : Oxygenic photosynthesis is undisputedly one of the most important chemical processes for human life on earth as it not only fills the atmosphere with the oxygen that we need to breathe, but also sustains the accumulation of biomass, which is not only used as nourishment but is also present in almost every aspect of our lives as building material, textiles in clothes and furniture, or even as living decorations to name a few.The photosynthetic water-splitting mechanism is catalyzed by a water:plastoquinone oxido-reductase by the name of photosystem II (PSII), which is embedded in the thylakoid membranes of plants, algae and cyanobacteria.
