1. Resonant Soft X-Ray Emission Spectroscopy of Vanadium Oxides and Related Compounds
Abstract : This thesis addresses the electronic structure of vanadium and copper oxides using soft X-ray absorption (SXA) spectroscopy and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at high brightness synchrotron radiation sources. In RIXS incident photons, tuned to the energy of specific absorption resonances, are inelastically scattered leaving behind a low energy valence excitation in the system studied. READ MORE

2. Redox reactions and structure - properties relations in mixed alkali/alkaline earth glasses : The role of antimony oxides during the fining process- A structural study of copper(I) and copper(II)
Abstract : It is important to optimize glass compositions for their specific purpose but also for the efficiency of the production process, the manufacturing of glass. This will be beneficial economically and environmentally. READ MORE

3. Selective oxidation over mixed oxide catalysts
Abstract : Since the metal oxide catalysts used in many chemical processes show very high selectivity for the products aimed at, both today and in the future, they play a key role in the environmentally and economically sustainable production of chemical intermediates. Two processes of this sort have been studied in the thesis: the ammoxidation of propane and propene over a Mo-V-Nb-Te-oxide catalyst and the selective oxidation of methanol over vanadium-based catalysts. 4. Reaching Kinetic Selectivities : In Pursuing Novel Ternary Oxide Coatings, and Beyond
Abstract : Kinetically driven synthesis pathways have the potential to allow new ways to develop materials and phases with much-improved properties. This particularly concerns metastable and multicomponent phases that require a selective kinetic targeting during the synthesis to circumvent the formation of thermodynamically stable products. 5. Electrochromism in Nickel-based Oxides : Coloration Mechanisms and Optimization of Sputter-deposited Thin Films
Abstract : Electrochromic properties of sputter-deposited nickel-based oxide films have been studied with a two-fold goal. From a practical point of view, the optical switching performance has been improved by optimizing the deposition conditions and film stoichiometry with respect to oxygen and hydrogen, and further by adding Mg, Al, Si, Zr, Nb or Ta to the films.
