  1. 1. Inflammation and neuroprotective strategies in the immature brain after hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

    Author : Pernilla Svedin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : hypoxia-ischemia; LPS; immature; brain; inflammation; NAC; melatonin; G-2mPE; MMP-9; MMP-12;

    Abstract : Perinatal brain injury, as a result of hypoxia-ischemia (HI) or infection/HI, is a major cause of acute mortality and neurological morbidity in infants and children. The mechanisms of perinatal HI are not fully understood, which makes it difficult to find effective treatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. TRAF6, a key regulator of TGFβ-induced oncogenesis in prostate cancer

    Author : Reshma Sundar; Marene Landström; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Petra Knaus; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TβRI; TGFβ; TACE; TRAF6; PS1; PKCζ; TβRI-ICD; NICD; Smad; non-Smad; prostate cancer; Snail1; MMP; p300; p21; PAI1; ubiquitination; cleavage; ICD; invasion; HES1; signaling; patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with the incidence rapidly increasing in Europe over the past two decades. Reliable biomarkers for prostate cancer are currently unavailable. Thus, there is an urgent need for improved biomarkers to diagnose prostate cancer at an early stage and to determine the best treatment options. READ MORE

  3. 3. Signaling determinants in Trojan horse-mediated dissemination of Toxoplasma gondii

    Author : Einar B. Ólafsson; Antonio Barragan; Eva Frickel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; leukocyte motility; dendritic cell; amoeboid migration; host-parasite interactions; podosome; integrin; ITGB1; ECM; MAT; TIMP; MMP; MAPK; Erk; RTK; HGFR; Ras; calcium; VDCC; VGCC; calmodulin; CaMkII; CD63; FAK; SRC; Pi3k; hypermigration; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects all warm-blooded vertebrates including one third of the global human population. While infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy human hosts, reactivated and acute infection in immunosuppressed or immunecompromised individuals can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis After ingestion, the parasite crosses the intestinal epithelium and rapidly achieves systemic dissemination, ultimately establishing chronic infection in the brain. 4. 4. Molecular determinants of disease severity in urinary tract infection

    Author : Ines Ambite; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Asymptomatic bacteriuria; urinary tract infection; acute pyelonephritis; cystitis; Escherichia coli 83972; host response; NlpD; RNA Polymerase II; transcription regulation; inflammasome; Il-1β; ASC; NLRP-3; hyper-inflammatory disorder; MMP-7; IL-1RA; genetic susceptibility; IRF-7; siRNA therapy; P fimbriae; type 1 fimbriae;

    Abstract : In the urinary tract, Escherichia coli infection may result in life-threatening disease, or asymptomatic bacterial carriage, comparable to bacterial commensalism in the gut. Pathogenic strains trigger a disease provoking host response which differs depending on the infected organ. READ MORE

  5. 5. Monocytes and macrophages, with a focus of Crohn's disease

    Author : Susanne Thiesen; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Crohn s disease; Cystatin C; Cytokines; Intestine; Macrophages; Monocytes; Gene-expression;

    Abstract : Monocytes and macrophages are part of the body’s first line of defense, eliminating pathogens by phagocytosis or by releasing a broad array of inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines, chemokines and proteases. In humans, three subsets of monocytes are described with seemingly different functions. READ MORE
