  1. 1. Myonuclear Organization and Regulation of Muscle Contraction in Single Muscle Fibres : Effects of Ageing, Gender, Species, Endocrine Factors and Muscle Size

    Author : Rizwan Qaisar; Lars Larsson; Jo Bruusgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; single muscle cells; muscle nuclei; specific force; species; hypertrophy; mammals; ageing; gender; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The skeletal muscle fibre is a syncitium where each myonucleus regulates the gene products in a finite volume of cytoplasm i.e., the myonuclear domain (MND). READ MORE

  2. 2. On the occurrence and possible causes of motor neuron disease in Sweden

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Gunnarsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Epidemiology; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; incidence; prevalence; mortality; cluster; Iisk factors; occupation; environment; agricultural work; electrical work; welding; solvents; heredity; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : A series of investigations have been performed to study secular trends of motor neuron disease (MND) morbidity and mortality in Sweden, to identify time and/or space clusters, if any, and to uncover risk factors. The occurrence of the disease was estimated from incidence, prevalence and mortality rates, and the strength of various determinants was evaluated by means of the case-control approach, using population controls. 3. 3. Multiplet structure studies of some manganese compounds

    Author : Olli Launila; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : A number of manganese compounds have been studied with different spectroscopic methods. The four electronic transitions (fc^n^-a5^*, c5£+-a5£+, d5ïïi-a5S+ and e5Z+-a5£+) in the quintet manifold of MnH have been analyzed. Also, the three first mentioned transitions have been analyzed in the isotopic molecule MnD. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experiences of pain and associations between pain, disease severity and individual quality of life in people with motor neuron diseases

    Author : Ylva Åkerblom; Pernilla Åsenlöf; Lena Zetterberg; Dag Nyholm; Lena von Koch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; motor neuron disease; pain; quality of life; individual quality of life; qualitative content analysis; pain severity; disease severity;

    Abstract : Many people with the incurable and often times fatal motor neuron diseases have pain, but there is lack of knowledge about people’s experiences of living with pain. Further, the correlation between pain and their quality of life is not well understood, and previous studies have not used individual quality of life, namely that people with their own words express what quality of life is. 5. 5. Theory of X-ray Absorption Spectra and Spin Transfer Torque

    Author : Ola Wessely; Olle Eriksson; Lars Nordström; Eric Shirley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Physics; First principles calculations; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; Carbon nanotubes; Helical spin density waves; Hydrogen storage; Spin transfer torque; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The subjects of the thesis are theoretical first principles calculations of X-ray absorption (XA) spectra and current induced spin transfer torque. XA spectra calculated from atomic multiplet theory and from band structure calculations, based on density functional theory for La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 have been compared to experiment. READ MORE
