  1. 1. Molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide as mild oxidants in catalytic oxidations : Applications to palladium and osmium catalysis

    Author : Katarina Bergstad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis the use of molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide as mild oxidants in transition metal-catalyzed oxidations of organic substrates is discussed. The thesis is divided into three parts.In the first part the use of heteropolyacids as robust oxygen-activating agents for aerobic reoxidation of zerovalent palladium is described. READ MORE

  2. 2. Crystallographic studies of enzymes involved in biosynthesis of fatty acids : beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase II and delta9-stearoyl-ACP desaturase

    Author : Martin Moche; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In the biosynthesis of fatty acids, the beta-Ketoacyl Acyl Carrier Protein Synthases (Kas) catalyse chain elongation by the addition of two-carbon units derived from malonyl-ACP, to an acyl group bound to CoA or the small protein ACP. These enzymes are potential targets for antibiotics against bacterial or parasitical infections and their mammalian counterparts could hopefully be used as drug targets against certain cancers and obesity. 3. 3. Biomimetic Reactions : Water Oxidation and Aerobic Oxidation

    Author : Lien-Hoa Tran; Björn Åkermark; Nina Kann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cobalt II salophen; oxygen-activating catalyst; hybrid; manganese complex; epoxidation; water oxidation.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis deals mainly with two oxidation reactions: water oxidation and aerobic oxidation, both of which have been applied in a biomimetic fashion. In the former reaction molecular oxygen is generated whereas in the latter it was used as terminal oxidant in oxidation reactions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Enzymes and genes for microbial metabolism ofoxochlorates

    Author : Helena Danielsson Thorell; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Oxochlorates can be used as electron acceptors for microbial respiration in a variety of bacterial species, and oxochlorate respiration plays a substantial role in the biotransformation of these environmental contaminants. Although oxochlorate respirers are widely spread in the environment, only few enzymes and even fewer genes, involved in the metabolism of oxochlorates have been isolated and characterised. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling the Zeeman Effect in Planetary Radiative Transfer and Applications

    Author : Richard Larsson; Juan R. Pardo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Atmosfärsvetenskap; Atmospheric Science;

    Abstract : Remote sensing is about retrieving distant physical properties from locally observed radiation. The first step to remote sensing is to describe, or model, the radiative transfer. READ MORE
