  1. 1. Source and Channel Coding for Audiovisual Communication Systems

    Author : Moo Young Kim; Bastiaan Kleijn; Richard Heusdens; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telekommunikation; Information theory; high-rate theory; source coding; channel coding; quantization; Telekommunikation; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Topics in source and channel coding for audiovisual communication systems are studied. The goal of source coding is to represent a source with the lowest possible rate to achieve a particular distortion, or with the lowest possible distortion at a given rate. Channel coding adds redundancy to quantized source information to recover channel errors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Material virtualities : Approaching online textual embodiment

    Author : Jenny Sunden; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Embodiment; body; cyberfeminism; cyborg; subjectivity; virtuality; materiality; MUD; MOO; cybercultural studies; digital textuality; online ethnography; poststructuralist literary theory; queer theory; online interaction; Diskursanalys; språksociologi; cyberspace; queerteori; virtuell verklighet; MUD; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : While the Internet is often presented as a disembodied medium, various forms of bodily presence are continually introduced when people meet online. This study explores notions of embodiment in a particular text-based virtual world (here called WaterMOO) by investigating how bodies- always sexually specific- are created and rendered meaningful in online textual practices. 3. 3. Metaheuristic Algorithms for Spatial Multi-Objective Decision Making

    Author : Olive Niyomubyeyi; Centrum för geografiska informationssystem (GIS-centrum); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geographic Information System GIS ; Multi-Objective Optimization MOO ; Spatial Decision Making; Metaheuristic Algorithms; Disaster management; Urban planning;

    Abstract : Spatial decision making is an everyday activity, common to individuals and organizations. However, recently there is an increasing interest in the importance of spatial decision-making systems, as more decision-makers with concerns about sustainability, social, economic, environmental, land use planning, and transportation issues discover the benefits of geographical information.
