  1. 16. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing

    Author : Helena Halonen; Monica Ek; Tommy Iversen; Derek D. Gray; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CP MAS 13C NMR; cellulose; fibril aggregation; biocomposite; compression moulding; supramolecular structure;

    Abstract : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted. 2. 17. Improving fatigue properties of welded high strength steels

    Author : Ebrahim Harati; Lars-Erik Svensson; Leif Karlsson; Norbert Enzinger; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fatigue strength; Residual stress; Welds; Weld toe geometry; High strength steel; High frequency mechanical impact treatment; Low Transformation Temperature welding consumable; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik; Production Technology; Produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : In recent years a strong interest has been expressed to produce lighter structures.One possible solution to reduce the weight is to utilize high strength steels and use welding as the joining method. READ MORE

  3. 18. Water resistance of Scots pine joints produced by linear friction welding

    Author : Mojgan Vaziri; Lars-Olof Nilsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; wood welding; crack; CT scanning; image processing; MRI; microdensitometry; CPMAS C NMR; density; water absorption; tensile-shear strength; Träteknik; Wood Technology;

    Abstract : Wood welding is a mechanical friction process allowing the assembly of timber without any adhesives. The process consists of applying mechanical friction, under pressure, alternately to the two wood surfaces to be welded. READ MORE

  4. 19. Extraction and chromatography of bioactive compounds in complex samples using supercritical CO2 technology

    Author : Said Alhamimi; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : Supercritical CO2; Chromatography; Extraction; Mass transfer; Solubility;

    Abstract : Bioactive compounds found in plants have been of interest to man since ancient times. These compounds have the ability to modulate the metabolic processes in our bodies, which suggests that they may promote better health. Bioactive compounds vary in their chemical structure, polarity, stability and biological activity. READ MORE

  5. 20. Water Curtains in Gas Storage. An Experimental Study

    Author : Carl-Olof Söder; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; analytical simulations; unlined gas storage; jointed rock; gas migration; gas containment; geo-hydrological test methods; hydromechanical breakdown;

    Abstract : Water curtains have been used for more than 20 years to prevent the escape of gas from caverns excavated in rock. Today, the use of water curtains appears to be increasing, with applications in various forms of storage caverns. READ MORE
