  1. 1. Defining RCE1 and ICMT as Therapeutic Targets in K-RAS-induced Cancer

    Author : Annika Wahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : RCE1; ICMT; K-RAS; CAAX proteins; MPD; lung cancer;

    Abstract : CAAX proteins, such as the RAS and RHO proteins, are recognized by a specific CAAX motif at the carboxyl terminus, which undergoes posttranslational modifications. First, a lipid group is attached to the cysteine (the “C”) of the CAAX motif by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGTase-I); second, the –AAX are removed by RAS converting enzyme 1 (RCE1); and third, the cysteine is methylated by isoprenylcysteine carboxyl methyltransferase (ICMT). 2. 2. Targeting NOX2 in cancer

    Author : Ebru Aydin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; reactive oxygen species; immunotherapy; nox2; nk cells; melanoma; histamine; metastasis; leukemia; aml; cml; kras; mpd;

    Abstract : Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are short-lived, toxic derivatives of oxygen that are produced during mitochondrial respiration and by NADPH oxidases (NOX). By enzymatically generating ROS, the myeloid cell NOX2 plays a critical role in defense against bacteria and other microorganisms. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and experimental studies in Philadelphia chromosome negative chronic myeloproliferative disorders

    Author : Peter Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : myeloproliferative disorders; polycythaemia vera; essential thrombocythaemia; epidemiology; erythropoietin; red-cell mass; spleen size; thrombo-embolic; PRV-1.;

    Abstract : The present thesis deals with various aspects on the (a) epidemiology, (b) diagnosis, and (c) molecular biology in Philadelphia chromosome negative (Ph-) chronic myeloproliferative disorders (MPD). First, the incidence of the three Ph- MPD, polycythaemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythaemia (ET) and idiopathic myelofibrosis (IMF) was investigated in the city of Göteborg, Sweden during the years 1983-1999 (Paper I). 4. 4. Improvement of the diagnosis and management of cystic tumors of the pancreas

    Author : Zeeshan Ateeb; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Pancreatic cancer is on its course on becoming the second cause of cancer related mortality. Although improvements have been made in the treatment arsenal, still only a minority of patients are able to receive treatment with curative intention. READ MORE

  5. 5. New technologies for the further advancement of ERCP

    Author : Marcus Reuterwall Hansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: The capabilities of conventional endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) are hampered by several limitations. Newly developed adjunct technologies such as single operator peroral cholangiopancreatoscopy (SOPCP) and new imaging techniques could overcome some of these limitations, but their role in common clinical practice have not yet been established.
