21. Cerebral arterial pulsatility imaging using 4D flow MRI : methodological development and applications in brain aging
Abstract : 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly recognizedas a versatile tool to assess arterial and venous hemodynamics. Cerebral arterial pulsatility is typically assessed by analyzing flow waveforms over the cardiac cycle, where flow amplitude is a function of cardiac output, central arterial stiffness, and cerebrovascular resistance and compliance. 22. Optimized use of MRI in a PSA based prostate cancer screening program
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to optimize different aspects of the use of MRI in screening for prostate cancer. Paper 1 was based on preoperative MRI in a prostatectomy cohort. READ MORE

23. Electrocardiographic Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Infarction and Scar: Correlation with SPECT, MRI and Arrhythmias
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development and testing of electrocardiographic (ECG) methods to diagnose and characterize myocardial ischemia, infarction and fibrosis (scar). The goal is to provide improved decision support to physicians regarding the optimal selection of patients for two costly, invasive therapies – percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). 24. In vivo Sub-regional dGEMRIC Analysis and Contrast Distribution in Clinical Studies of Human Knee Cartilage
Abstract : Aims: This work was carried out to investigate whether considering cartilage depth in vivo dGEMRIC would provide additional information on the molecular content and changes in normal and diseased cartilage. Methods: Study I was a longitudinal study on 23 healthy volunteers; Study II was a case-control study on 9 sedentary individuals and 8 elite runners. READ MORE

25. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements
Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters.
