  1. 1. Characterisation of organic materials from incineration residues

    Author : Inger Johansson; Anna Ledin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ash; biofuel; waste; residues; MSWI; incineration; leaching; organic carbon; organic acids; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAH; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The organic material present in incineration residues has been examined. Water leachable organic material was characterised and classified into hydrophilic and hydrophobic acids, neutrals and bases. Changes of the organic material during weathering were followed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of soil organic matter for immobilisation of metals : treatment of leachate from MSWI bottom ashes

    Author : Jurate Kumpiene; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Waste Science and Technology; Avfallsteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the focus is laid on the ability of natural organic matter (OM) to serve as a metal stabilising agent. The metal contaminants investigated arise from the MSWI bottom ash leachate. Besides the high content of metals, elevated pH and salinity are characteristic for ash leachate that, in turn, can alter the functionality of OM. READ MORE

  3. 3. Unsaturated Phase Environmental Processes in MSWI Bottom Ash

    Author : Aamir Ilyas; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bottom Ash; Frequency Domain; Hydrogen Recovery; Leaching; Microbial Respiration; Eco-toxicity; Solid Waste;

    Abstract : Every year, Sweden produces 1.5 million tons of incineration residues from waste to energy plants. Among these residues bottom ash(BA) due to its large volume and good geotechnical quality can be reused as an alternative construction material. READ MORE

  4. 4. Metals in MSWI fly ash - problems or opportunities?

    Author : Karin Karlfeldt Fedje; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HNO3; water; NH3NO4; MSW ash; pH; metals; solvent extraction; speciation; Cu; leaching;

    Abstract : Incineration of municipal solid waste is a commonly used management method to take care of our waste. However, the residues produced are a problem. They often contain large amounts of potentially toxic metal compounds and soluble salts, which can cause harm to the environment and human health if released from the ash. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanical Properties of Residues as Unbound Road Materials - experimental tests on MSWI bottom ash, crushed concrete and blast furnace slag

    Author : Maria Arm; KTH; []
    Keywords : residues; unbound materials; MSWI bottom ash; crushedconcrete; blast furnace slag; mechanical properties;

    Abstract : For recycled aggregates and industrial by-products to beused correctly in road construction, it is necessary to knowtheir properties. Existing material specifications and testmethods for aggregates used in Sweden and in many othercountries are indirect and are based on empiricism. READ MORE
