  1. 1. PPARs in the regulation of gene expression and lipid metabolism in the liver

    Author : Ulrika Edvardsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PPARalpha; PPARgamma; PPARgamma2; Wy14; 643; rosiglitazone; liver; hepatocytes; insulin; fatty acids; MTP; ADRP; lipid metabolism; apoB; triglycerides.;

    Abstract : Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors, regulating genes involved in carbohydrate, lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Synthetic PPARalpha agonists used in clinic are the fibrates, and their hypotriglyceridemic effect is believed to be the result of decreased VLDL triglyceride secretion and increased turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein particles in the circulation. 2. 2. Molecular regulation of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein gene, MTP : functional genetic studies in relation to cardiovascular disease

    Author : Helena Ledmyr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; polymorphism coronary heart disease; CHD; cardiac lipid metabolism; protein function; functional promoter studies;

    Abstract : The microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, MTP, is expressed mainly in the liver, intestine and in the heart. It is crucial for the assembly and secretion of apob-containing lipoproteins, chylomicrons in the intestine and very-low density lipoproteins (VLDL) in the liver. READ MORE

  3. 3. The rheumatoid forefoot : surgical treatment and epidemiological aspects

    Author : Lollo Gröndal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rheumatoid forefoot surgery - Arthrodesis of MTP 1 - Arthrodesis versus resection in MTP 1 - Rheumatoid forefoot prevalence - load distribution and time-and distance parameters in rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : Background: The forefoot is frequently involved in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) resulting in a painful, handicapping deformity. The prevalence stated has long been based on a study from 1956. READ MORE

  4. 4. Growth hormone and PPARalpha in the regulation of genes involved in hepatic lipid metabolism

    Author : Caroline Améen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Growth hormone; insulin; SREBP-1; lipogenic enzymes; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; PPARalpha; LXRalpha; triglycerides; liver;

    Abstract : Growth hormone (GH) plays a key role in the regulation of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Its sexually dimorphic secretory pattern regulates many sex-differentiated functions in the liver, such as triglyceride synthesis and VLDL secretion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Evaluations and Experimental Design Recommendations for Preclinical Studies of Anti-tuberculosis Drugs

    Author : Chunli Chen; Ulrika Simonsson; Mats Karlsson; Sebastian Wicha; Bernd Meibohm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tuberculosis; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; pharmacometrics; the Multistate Tuberculosis Pharmacometric model; the General Pharmacodynamic Interaction model; optimized design; rifampicin; isoniazid; ethambutol; pyrazinamide; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Tuberculosis is an ancient infectious disease and a leading cause of death globally. Preclinical research is important for defining drugs and regimens which should be carried forward to human studies. READ MORE
