1. Multiscale Modeling of Molecular Sieving in LTA-type Zeolites : From the Quantum Level to the Macroscopic
Abstract : LTA-type zeolites with narrow window apertures coinciding with the approximate size of small gaseous molecules such as CO2 and N2 are interesting candidates for adsorbents with swing adsorption technologies due to their molecular sieving capabilities and otherwise attractive properties. These sieving capabilities are dependent on the energy barriers of diffusion between the zeolite pores, which can be fine-tuned by altering the framework composition. READ MORE

2. Extending Photoinduced Charge Separation. Molecular-semiconductor assemblies for solar energy conversion
Abstract : The conversion of solar energy into chemical energy by harvesting visible-light with synthetic molecules presents several scientific and technological challenges. This thesis is dedicated to the investigation of approaches to long-lived charge separation, one of the crucial aspects for the photochemical generation of solar fuels. READ MORE

3. Macroscopic Volume and Free Volume of Polymer Blends and Pressure-densified Polymers
Abstract : The macroscopic volume V as a function of pressure P and temperature T is obtained from PVT measurements. PVT data is sensitive to the state of polymers and changes therein. Moreover, PVT data gives access to the free-volume fraction. READ MORE

4. Microfluidic Preparation and Transport of Long DNA using Pillar Arrays
Abstract : This thesis presents a set of microfluidic tools and experimental studies for preparing (> 20 kbp) for genetic analysisas well as the transport of high-concentration, long-DNA solutions in pillar arrays.Long-DNA sample preparation with conventional gel-based techniques is slow (tens of hours to days) and laborious. 5. Experimental Design and Evaluation of Biocide Release from Microcapsules
Abstract : To protect a painted house façade from mold or algae, anti-growth agents are usually mixed in the paint. The protection of paint systems used in the past relied on heavy metals for protection and are banned today due to their negative impact on the environment. READ MORE
