  1. 1. Modeling and Verification of Ultra-Fast Electro-Mechanical Actuators for HVDC Breakers

    Author : Ara Bissal; Göran Engdahl; Elena Lomonova; KTH; []
    Keywords : Actuators; Armature; Capacitors; Circuit breakers; Coils; Damping; Eddy currents; Elasticity; Electro-mechanical devices; Electromagnetic forces; Finite element methods; HVDC transmission; Image motion analysis; Magnetic domains; Magnetic flux; Magnetic forces; Magnetic materials; Magnets; Thermal analysis; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The continuously increasing demand for clean renewable energy has rekindled interest in multi-terminal high voltage direct current (HVDC) grids. Although such grids have several advantages and a great potential, their materialization has been thwarted due to the absence of HVDC breakers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Resonant magnetic perturbation effect on the tearing mode dynamics : Novel measurements and modeling of magnetic fluctuation induced momentum transport in the reversed-field pinch

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Lorenzo Frassinetti; Tommaso Bolzonella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RFP; reversed-field pinch; tokamak; tearing mode; RMP; fusion; plasma; resonant magnetic perturbation; stochastic; magnetic; field; viscosity; mode; locking; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The tearing mode (TM) is a resistive instability that can arise in magnetically confined plasmas. The TM can be driven unstable by the gradient of the plasma current. When the mode grows it destroys the magnetic field symmetry and reconnects the magnetic field in the form of a so-called magnetic island. READ MORE

  3. 3. Magnetic Fields and Induced Power in the Induction Heating of Aluminium Billets

    Author : Mark William Kennedy; Ragnhild E. Aune; Andreas Westermoen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Induction; heating; billets; coils; magnetic fields;

    Abstract : Induction heating is a common industrial process used for the reheating of billets before extrusion or forging. In this work the influence of the coil and work piece geometry, the effect of the electrical properties of the work piece, and the coil current and frequency, on the magnetic flux density and resulting work piece heating rates were studied. 4. 4. Brownian Relaxation Measurements of Magnetic Nanoparticles: Towards the Development of a Novel Biosensor System

    Author : Andrea Prieto Astalan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PSA; Magnetic susceptibility; Brownian relaxation; Biosensor; Prostate specific antigen; Magnetic nanoparticles; Frequency domain; Induction coils; Time domain;

    Abstract : Magnetic measurements of the Brownian relaxation time of thermally blocked magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in a solution have been performed in order to determine the hydrodynamic size distribution of the particles. By measuring changes in the hydrodynamic size of the particles, the ammount of analytes attached to the surface of particles can be determined. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular Diagnostics Using Volume-Amplified Magnetic Nanobeads : Towards the Development of a Novel Biosensor System

    Author : Mattias Strömberg; Maria Strømme; Peter Svedlindh; Mikkel Fougt Hansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic Biosensors; Ferrofluid; Biofunctionalisation; Ferrofluidic Aging; Interbead Interactions; Magnetic Nanobeads; Complex Magnetisation; Brownian Relaxation; Padlock Probes; Rolling Circle Amplification; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Micro- or nanometer sized magnetic particles (beads) currently have a vast range of life science applications in, for example, bioseparation techniques, cancer therapy, development of contrast agents and biosensing techniques. In the latter field, magnetic beads offer several unique advantages, including minimal background signals, physical and chemical stability and low manufacturing costs. READ MORE
