  1. 1. Nanoparticles : Engineering, Assembly, and Biomedical Applications

    Author : Do Kyung Kim; KTH; []
    Keywords : nanoparticle; superparamagnetism; self assembly; ;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with novel aspects through Nanotechnologyof"bottom-up"and"top-down"strategies in combination with Biotechnology as aninterdisciplinary study. The feasibility of chemically tailoredsuperparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) forin-vivobiomedical applications has beendemonstrated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, a novel tracer in breast cancer surgery

    Author : Abdi-Fatah Hersi; Staffan Eriksson; Fredrik Wärnberg; Andreas Karakatsanis; Thorsten Kühn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles; SPIO; magnetic seed; magnetic surgery; sentinel node; sentinel node biopsy; nonpalpable; ductal carcinoma in situ; DCIS; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The most common surgical choice of treatment in breast cancer is breast-conserving surgery (BCS) together with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB). Around 10% of breast cancer diagnosis are ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO) are a novel tracer for sentinel lymph node (SN) detection. READ MORE

  3. 3. Building crystals out of crystals : Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles and self-assembled mesocrystals

    Author : Erik Wetterskog; Lennart Bergström; Markus Niederberger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron oxide; nanoparticle; synthesis; self-assembly; characterization; electron microscopy; scattering; magnetic properties; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the fabrication and characterization of self-assembled arrays of magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3 and Fe1-xO) nanoparticles. The synthesis of spherical and cubic iron oxide nanocrystals, with sizes between 5 and 30 nm and narrow size distributions, is demonstrated, along with a rigorous morphological characterization of the cubic nanoparticles. 4. 4. Heterogeneous Photolytic Synthesis of Nanoparticles

    Author : Oscar Alm; Klaus Piglmayer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Chemistry; LCVD; Nanotechnology; Metallocene; Magnetic; Photolysis; OES; tungsten oxide; gas sensing; Kemi;

    Abstract : Nanoparticles of iron, cobalt and tungsten oxide were synthesised by photolytic laser assisted chemical vapour deposition (LCVD). An excimer laser (operating at 193 nm) was used as an excitation source. The LCVD process, was monitored in situ by optical emission spectroscopy (OES). READ MORE

  5. 5. Application of magnetic nanoparticles and reactive filter materials for wastewater treatment

    Author : Ramnath Lakshmanan; Gunaratna Kuttuva Rajarao; Erik Dahlquist; KTH; []
