  1. 1. From Sequence to Sorting : Prediction of Signal Peptides

    Author : Henrik Nielsen; Philipp Bucher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : In the present age of genome sequencing, a vast number of predicted genes are initially known only by their putative nucleotide sequence. The newly established field of bioinformatics is concerned with the computational prediction of structural and functional properties of genes and the proteins they encode, based on their nucleotide and amino acid sequences. 2. 2. Layered Design: Concepts, Case Studies and Processes - Theories and Implementations

    Author : Linn Gustafsson Christiernin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Structure; and Process; Adaptability; Layer; Complex Interfaces; Experience; Sequence; Divided functions; Design;

    Abstract : Many modern applications are focused on providing as many functions as possible and attract as many users groups as possible. The interfaces become very advanced but also quite complex. In many cases the design is perceived rather difficult by the end users. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sequence based analysis of neurodevelopmental disorders

    Author : Jonatan Halvardson; Lars Feuk; Alexandre Reymond; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the main focus is the use of methods and applications of next generation sequencing in order to study three of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders: intellectual disability, epilepsy and schizophrenia. A large fraction of the genes in our genome produce several distinct transcript isoforms through the process of splicing and there is an increasing amount of evidence pinpointing mutations affecting splicing as a mechanism of disease. 4. 4. Observations and analysis of water in molecular outflows and shocks

    Author : Per Bjerkeli; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interstellar medium; molecules; jets and outflows; pre-main-sequence; stars; supernova remnants;

    Abstract : This thesis describes observations and analysis of molecular outflows from young stellar objects. The observations using the Odin satellite are described in Paper I, where a non-LTE radiative transfer code has been used to estimate the ortho-water abundance in seven molecular outflows and one super-nova remnant. 5. 5. Dwarf and Subgiant Stars as Probes of Galactic Chemical and Dynamical Evolution

    Author : Patrik Thorén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Abundances; atomic data; Galactic evolution; late-type stars; main sequence stars; subgiants; Pop II; Pop I; stellar evolution; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : Stellar chemical abundances provide astronomers with vital information about the production of chemical elements. Some stars preserve the composition of the environment in which they were born on their surfaces. READ MORE
