  1. 1. Topological band theory and Majorana fermions : With focus on self-consistent lattice models

    Author : Kristofer Björnson; Annica M. Black-Schaffer; Jonas Fransson; Olle Eriksson; Andrei Bernevig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Topology; Majorana; superconductivity; material physics; numerical calculations; tight-binding; mean-field;

    Abstract : One of the most central concepts in condensed matter physics is the electronic band structure. Although band theory was established more than 80 years ago, recent developments have led to new insights that are formulated in the framework of topological band theory. READ MORE

  2. 2. Non-Linear Canonical Methods in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

    Author : Matteo Bazzanella; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Majorana fermions; Emergent Majorana fermions; Non-linear transformation; canonical transformation; Kondo lattice; Mott insulator; Mean-field; Path-integral;

    Abstract : In this thesis some new ideas to perform the analysis of Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems (SCES) are developed. In particular the use of non-linear canonical transformations is considered thoroughly. READ MORE

  3. 3. The one-dimensional Kondo Lattice in the Majorana Fermion representation

    Author : Matteo Bazzanella; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Majorana fermions; kondo lattice; path integral; spin-selective kondo insulator;

    Abstract : This thesis analyses the possibilities offered by the representation of quantum mechanical operators in terms of Majorana fermions. These objects can be imagined as algebraic constituents of the fermionic degrees of freedom, allowing for a different representation of many Hamiltonians. READ MORE

  4. 4. Charge Transport in Semiconductor Nanowire Quantum Devices: From Single Quantum Dots to Topological Superconductors

    Author : Mingtang Deng; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multiple Andreev reflection; SQUID; Proximity effect; the Josephson effect; Cooper pair; the Kondo effect; the Zeeman effect; Quantum dot; InSb; Nanowires; Transport; Fysicumarkivet A:2013:Deng; Majorana bound state; Yu-Shiba-Rusinov state; Andreev bound state;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on charge transport in semiconductor InSb nanowire quantum devices, including the electron transport, the hole transport, and the Cooper pair transport. Devices in which InSb semiconductor nanowire quantum dots are coupled with normal metals, superconductors or the proximity effect induced topological superconductors are fabricated and measured. 5. 5. Edge Modes of Zn Symmetric Chains

    Author : Iman Mahyaeh; Eddy Ardonne; Mariana Malard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : In this Licentiate Thesis we will study the topological phases of Z2 and Z3 symmetric chains. We will present the Kitaev chain, a Z2 symmetric model of spinless fermions, and obtain all the eigenstates of the model with an open boundary condition which hosts Majorana zero modes in the topological phase.
