  1. 1. Predictions of Effective Models in Neutrino Physics

    Author : Johannes Bergström; Tommy Ohlsson; Rikard Enberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutrino mass; lepton mixing; Majorana neutrinos; effective field theory; Weinberg operator; seesaw models; low-scale seesaw models; inverse seesaw; right-handed neutrinos; renormalization group; threshold effects; neutrinoless double beta decay; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : Experiments on neutrino oscillations have confirmed that neutrinos have small, but non-zero masses, and that the interacting neutrino states do not have definite masses, but are mixtures of such states.The seesaw models make up a group of popular models describing the small neutrino masses and the corresponding mixing. Abstract : The standard model of particle physics can excellently describe the vast majorityof data of particle physics experiments. However, in its simplest form, it cannot account for the fact that the neutrinos are massive particles and lepton flavorsmixed, as required by the observation of neutrino oscillations. READ MORE

  4. 4. A Search for Dark Matter in the Sun with AMANDA and IceCube

    Author : Olle Engdegård; Olga Botner; Allan Hallgren; Jodi Cooley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; WIMP; neutralino; MSSM; Kaluza-Klein; IceCube; AMANDA; neutrino telescope; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : A search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) annihilating in the Sun was performed with the IceCube and AMANDA neutrino telescopes, using data from 2008 corresponding to 149 days of livetime. Assuming that particles in the dark matter halo scatter and accumulate in the centre of the Sun, Majorana WIMPs may pair-wise annihilate and give rise to a neutrino signal detectable in an experiment at Earth. 5. 5. Astrophysical and Collider Signatures of Extra Dimensions

    Author : Henrik Melbéus; Tommy Ohlsson; Jörn Kersten; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extra-dimensional quantum field theories; universal extra dimensions; Kaluza-Klein dark matter; Arkani-Hamed-Dimopoulos-Dvali model; hierarchy problem; neutrino mass; seesaw mechanism; Large Hadron Collider phenomenology; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been a large interest in the subject of extra dimensions in particle physics. In particular, a number of models have been suggested which provide solutions to some of the problems with the current Standard Model of particle physics, and which could be tested in the next generation of high-energy experiments.
