  1. 1. Malignant glioma : experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic

    Author : Eva von Schoultz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malignant glioma; meningioma; glioma cells; sex steroids; estramustine; nor-nitrogen mustard; estramustine- binding protein; DNA damage; cell membrane;

    Abstract : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth

    Author : Ville Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Liver; cytokine; interleukin-6; tumor necrosis factor; primary liver growth promoter; cyproterone acetate; nafenopin; hepatocyte growth factor; HGF receptor; tumor; sarcoma; N-terminal; truncated;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 3. 3. Extratumoral effects of highly aggressive prostate cancer

    Author : Kerstin Strömvall; Anders Bergh; Sofia Halin Bergström; Göran Landberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; tumor instructed normal tissue; TINT; non-malignant prostate tissue; lymph nodes; lymph node metastasis; pre-metastatic niche; tumor microenvironment; tumor macroenvironment; tumor immunoediting; Dunning rat model of prostate cancer;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer in Sweden. Most patients have slow growing tumors that will not cause them any harm within their lifetime, but some have aggressive tumors and will die from their disease. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Author : Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 5. 5. Cellular, Molecular and Functional Characterization of the Tumor Suppressor Candidate MYO1C

    Author : Kittichate Visuttijai; Afrouz Behboudi; Katarina Ejeskär; Anders Oldfors; Volker Haucke; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MYO1C; myosin IC; tumor suppressor gene; cancer; tumor; PI3K AKT signaling; Medical sciences; Medicin; MYO1C; myosin IC; tumor suppressor gene; cancer; tumor; PI3K AKT signaling;

    Abstract : Tumor suppressor genes play a role as a growth regulator and a gatekeeper of a cell. Their inactivation is often detected in malignant tumors. Identification of novel tumor suppressor gene candidates may help to further understand tumorigenesis and aid in the discovery of a new treatment leading toward cure of cancer. READ MORE
