1. Improving flavonoid production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using synthetic biology tools
Abstract : Flavonoids are plant secondary metabolites and represent one of the largest classes of natural products. Due to their health-beneficial properties, they have found potential applications in foods, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Currently, their production is based on extraction from plant material. READ MORE

2. [11C]Carbon Monoxide in Rhodium-/Palladium-Mediated Carbonylation Reactions
Abstract : Methods for the 11C-labeling of carbonyl compounds applicable in the preparation of radiotracers for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) are described. To this end [11C]carbon monoxide at low concentration was used in transition metal- mediated reactions. READ MORE

3. Surface chemistry of Al and Si (hydr)oxides, with emphasis on nano-sized gibbsite (α-Al(OH)3)
Abstract : This thesis contains an introduction to the surface chemistry of minerals in aqueous environment, and a summary of five manuscripts concerning adsorption reactions at the surfaces of nano-sized gibbsite (α-Al(OH)3), amorphous silica and kaolinite. Nano-sized gibbsite was synthesized and thoroughly characterized using X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. 4. Chiral Pyridine-Containing Ligands for Asymmetric Catalysis. Synthesis and Applications
Abstract : This thesis deals with the design and syntheses of chiral, enantiopure pyridinecontaining ligands and their applicationsin asymmetric catalyis.Chiral pyridyl pyrrolidine ligands and pyridyl oxazolineligands were synthesized and employed in thepalladium-catalysed allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with dimethyl malonate. 5. Ligand Dependent Regioselectivity in Palladium Mediated Allylic Alkylation
Abstract : In this thesis, different aspects on ligand dependent regioselectivity in palladium mediated allylic alkylation have been studied. It is believed that the regioselectivity is a result of nucleophilic attack trans to phosphorous when applying ligands wih different donor atoms. READ MORE
