  1. 1. Ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric transformations of alcohols

    Author : Michaela Edin; Jan-E. Bäckvall; Manfred T. Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ruthenium; lipase; catalysis; alcohols; diols; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The major part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure alcohols and diols by combining ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions that lead to racemization or epimerization and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric trans-formations in one-pot.A mechanistic study of the unexpected facile formation of meso-diacetate products found in enzyme-catalyzed acetylations of alkanediols with Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was first performed. 2. 2. Enantioselective biotransformations using engineered lipases from Candida antarctica

    Author : Karin Engström; Jan-E. Bäckvall; Manfred T. Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein engineering; directed evolution; kinetic resolution; dynamic kinetic resolution; biotransformation; lipase; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Enzymes are attractive catalysts in organic synthesis since they are efficient, selective and environmentally friendly. A large number of enzyme-catalyzed transformations have been described in the literature. READ MORE

  3. 3. Engineered Alcohol Dehydrogenases for Stereoselective Chemical Transformations

    Author : Thilak Reddy Enugala; Mikael Widersten; Manfred T. Reetz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alcohol dehydrogenase-A; biocatalysts; protein engineering; enzyme kinetics; sec-alcohols; ketones; stereoselectivity; regioselectivity; substrate selectivity and promiscuity.; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Enzymes are biomolecules built from amino acids and catalyze the chemical transformations in a cell. Enzymes are by nature stereoselective, biodegradable, environmentally friendly, and can perform catalysis in aqueous solutions and at ambient temperatures. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis

    Author : Oscar Verho; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Manfred Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process.
