  1. 1. Thin Mn silicide and germanide layers studied by photoemission and STM

    Author : Joakim Hirvonen Grytzelius; Lars Johansson; Hanmin Zhang; Leif Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiconductor surfaces; Si 111 ; Ge 111 ; manganese; Mn; silicides; germanides; atomic structure; electronic structure; magnetic properties; LEED; ARPES; XPS; core-level spectroscopy; STM; STS; XMCD; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis concerns experimental studies of thin manganese silicide and germanide layers, grown by solid phase epitaxy on the Si(111)7×7 and the Ge(111)c(2×8) surfaces, respectively. The atomic and electronic structures, as well as growth modes of the epitaxial Mn-Si and Mn-Ge layers, were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), core-level spectroscopy (CLS), and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). 2. 2. Structural Properties of Palladium-Manganese Alloys

    Author : Alexander J Jaworowski; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transition metal; structure; growth; adsorption; core level photoemission. scanning tunneling microscopy; fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy; Manganese; Palladium; Rhodium; Molybdenum; NO; CO; alloy; O; Physics; Fysik; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Jaworowski;

    Abstract : Structural properties of adsorbed overlayers on well-defined single crystals and of Palladium-Manganese surface alloys formed on Pd(100) have been investigated using synchrotron-based photoemission, scanning tunneling microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The experimental valence electronic structure of PdMn systems on Pd(100) is compared to density functional calculations (DFT). READ MORE

  3. 3. Manganese and Iron Heterodimers and Homodimers in Enzymes : Insights from Density Functional Theory

    Author : Katarina Roos; Per Siegbahn; Margareta R. A. Blomberg; Frank Neese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribonucleotide reductase; manganese; iron; density functional theory; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : The enzyme ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalyzes the reduction of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks of DNA, and is essential for all organisms. Canonical class I RNR R2 proteins use a diiron cofactor to generate a tyrosyl radical, which is required for catalysis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrogeochemistry of Fe and Mn in small boreal catchments

    Author : Louise Björkvald; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogeochemistry; Fe; Mn; boreal catchments; spring flood; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap;

    Abstract : It is suggested that the overall understanding of the general hydrogeochemistry of a region is best understood from a landscape perspective. If so, this can provide useful information when planning monitoring programmes and influence of human activity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Electron Transfer in Ruthenium-Manganese Complexes for Artificial Photosynthesis : Studies in Solution and on Electrode Surfaces

    Author : Malin L. A. Abrahamsson; Gerald J. Meyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Artificial photosynthesis; electron transfer; energy transfer; ruthenium; manganese; titanium dioxide; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In today’s society there is an increasing need for energy, an increase which for the most part is supplied by the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuel resources are limited and their use has harmful effects on the environment, therefore the development of technologies that produce clean energy sources is very appealing. READ MORE
