  1. 1. Experimental studies of confinement in the EXTRAP T2 and T2R reversed field pinches

    Author : Marco Cecconello; KTH; []
    Keywords : extap t2; extrap t2r; reversed field pinch; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The confinement properties of fusion plasmas are affected bymagnetic and electrostatic fluctuations. The determination ofthe plasma confinement properties requires the measurement ofseveral global and local quantities such as the ion andelectron temperatures, the electron and neutral densityprofiles, the radiation emissivity profiles, the ohmic inputpower and the particle and heat diffusivities. 2. 2. Tearing mode dynamics in the presence of resonant magnetic perturbations

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Marco Cecconello; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tearing mode; plasma; fusion; reversed-field pinch; RFP; magnetic; confinement; resonant; perturbation; magnetohydrodynamics; MHD; EXTRAP T2R; Madison Symmetic Torus; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Magnetically confined fusion (MCF) plasmas are typically subject to several unstable modes. The growth of one mode can limit the plasma energy confinement and might cause a termination of the plasma. Externally applied resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are used to control and to mitigate some of the unstable modes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Plasma-Facing Components in Tokamaks : Studies of Wall Conditioning Processes and Plasma Impact on Diagnostic Mirrors

    Author : Álvaro García Carrasco; Marek Rubel; Marco Cecconello; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasa-wall interactions; wall conditioning; tracers; diagnostic mirrors; ICWC; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Understanding of material migration and its impact on the formation of co-deposited mixed material layers on plasma-facing components is essential for the development of fusion reactors. This thesis focuses on this topic. It is based on experiments performed at JET and TEXTOR tokamaks. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling and Measurements of MAST Neutron Emission

    Author : Iwona Klimek; Marco Cecconello; Jozef Ongena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron emissivity and rate; Neutron Camera; tokamak; MAST; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : Measurements of neutron emission from a fusion plasma can provide a wealth of information on the underlying temporal, spatial and energy distributions of reacting ions and how they are affected by a wide range of magneto-hydro-dynamic (MHD) instabilities.This thesis focuses on the interpretation of the experimental measurements recorded by neutron flux monitors with and without spectroscopic capabilities installed on the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST). 5. 5. Study of Collimated Neutron Flux Monitors for MAST and MAST Upgrade

    Author : Siriyaporn Sangaroon; Göran Ericsson; Marco Cecconello; Matthias Weiszflog; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion; Plasma diagnostics; Neutron camera; collimated neutron flux monitor; MAST; MAST Upgrade; ITER; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Measurements of the neutron emission, resulting from nuclear fusion reactions between the hydrogen isotopes deuterium and tritium, can provide a wealth of information on the confinement properties of fusion plasmas and how these are affected by Magneto-Hydro-Dynamic (MHD) instabilities.This thesis describes work aimed to develop neutron measurement techniques for nuclear fusion plasma experiments, specifically regarding the performance and design of collimated neutron flux monitors (neutron cameras) for the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak, MAST, and for MAST Upgrade.
