  1. 1. Detecting changes in climate and atmospheric composition with tracers in Arctic ice caps

    Author : Margareta Hansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Changes in climate and atmospheric composition over decades to a hundred thousand years have been studied by extracting records of various tracers from two Arctic ice cores. A seven metre long ice core of superimposed ice was recovered from the Storöya ice cap in north-eastern Svalbard. READ MORE

  2. 2. Response of glaciers to climate change : Mass balance sensitivity, sea level rise and runoff

    Author : Mattias de Woul; Regine Hock; Peter Jansson; Margareta Hansson; Roger J. Braithwaite; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier; mass balance modelling; mass balance sensitivity; sea level rise; glacial runoff; Hofsjökull; Storglaciären; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study is to enhance our understanding of the response of glaciers to climate change. Global sea level is affected by changes in glacier ice volume, and melt-water from glaciers is a principal water source in many regions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sulfur in polar ice and snow : Interpretations of past atmosphere and climate through glacial archives

    Author : Ulf Jonsell; Margareta Hansson; Mark Curran; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice cores; aerosols; sulfate; methanesulfonate; sulfur isotopes; climate; glacial cycles; Antarctica; Greenland; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Snow contains information on the atmosphere it is deposited from. This information is stored in polar ice sheets (Antarctica and Greenland), which are unique geochronological archives of past climate and atmospheric composition. On time scales from annual to glacial cycles, this thesis deals with the signals of sulfur compounds in these archives. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tephra horizons in the North Atlantic region during the Early Holocene

    Author : Ewa Lind; Stefan Wastegård; Margareta Hansson; Britta Sannel; Victoria Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tephrochronology; geochemical composition; Saksunarvatn Ash; Vedde Ash; Fosen Tephra; Askja-S; palaeoclimate; Younger Dryas; Early Holocene; “XRF ITRAX”; sediment geochemistry; stable isotopes; Faroe Islands; Norway; Sweden; Quaternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : Uncertainties about the rate and magnitude of future climate change have drawn attention to the climate variability following the Late Glacial-Early Holocene transition, c. 12-8 ka BP. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards an Early Holocene Tephrochronology for the Faroe Islands: Methodology and first results

    Author : Ewa Lind; Stefan Wastegård; Margareta Hansson; Britta Sannel; Jane Boygle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Quarternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : The uncertainties regarding future climate change have put considerable notice to the climate variability following the Late Glacial-Holocene transition (ca. 13-9 ka BP) in the North Atlantic region as well as the forcing mechanisms behind climate changes. READ MORE
