  1. 1. War and peace in the tumor microenvironment : tumor-associated cells as facilitators or adversaries during tumor development

    Author : Margarita Bartish; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The tumor microenvironment, including immune cells, fibroblasts and vasculature, profoundly affects tumor development by initially opposing, but eventually facilitating tumor growth, vascularization and spread. Though corrupted by the growing tumor, such cells remain non-transformed and thus, with proper cues, are possible to direct toward their physiological anti-tumor function. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genesis and Diagenesis of the Phosphatic Hardground of the Holm Dal Formation (Late Middle Cambrian), North Greenland

    Author : Margarita Cajas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The phosphatic hardground of the Holm Dal Formation (late Middle Cambrian) of North Greenland is composed of two parts: one basal with abundant allochthonous material and an upper part without an allochthonous component. It was formed by release of phosphate, by bacterial degradation, from organic matter which accumulated in lime mudstones on which the hardground developed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stem cell-based models to study cellular alterations in Parkinson’s Disease

    Author : Margarita Chumarina; Stamcellslaboratoriet för sjukdomsmodellering i det centrala nervsystemet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; stem cells; IPSCs; dopaminergic neurons; oligodendrocytes; omics;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative movement disorder. Despite investigative efforts into the pathogenesis of the disease, the aetiology and mechanism of PD remains unknown, with multiple factors and cellular pathways known to play a part. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neuropeptide expression in mouse disease models

    Author : Margarita Diez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Alzheimers disease; autoradiographic ligand binding; CCK; degeneration; dynorphin; enkephalin; galanin; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; lesion; magnetic resonance imaging; megencephaly; NPY; prion infection; substance P.;

    Abstract : The role of neuropeptides and the significance of peptidergic mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases are still relatively unexplored. In the periphery, nerve injury results in dramatic changes in the expression of neuropeptides (and other molecules). READ MORE

  5. 5. Cellular and molecular factors in the pathogenesis of systemic autoimmunity and comorbidities

    Author : Margarita Ivanchenko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are systemic rheumatic autoimmune diseases having a major impact on patient’s wellbeing. Besides fatigue, pain and direct damage to exocrine glands in SS, and various target organs, such as skin, joints, kidneys and brain in SLE, these diseases confer an increased risk of lymphoma development and can cause an autoimmune condition in the foetus of pregnant patients, termed neonatal lupus.
