  1. 1. The worries of working : Longitudinal studies on the impact of employment uncertainty and employment transitions on clinically defined mental health conditions

    Author : Sandra Blomqvist; Linda Magnusson Hanson; Hugo Westerlund; Sarah Burgard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Employment uncertainty; Organizational downsizing; Job insecurity; Mental health; Psychotropic drugs; Suicide; Suicide attempt; Longitudinal studies; Survey data; Register data; Generalized Estimating Equations; Marginal Structural Models; folkhälsovetenskap; Public Health Sciences;

    Abstract : While mental health problems according psychotropic drug purchases and sick leave spells for psychiatric disorders have increased in Sweden the past 15 years, this is not reflected in trends of psychiatric diagnoses or suicide mortality. In parallel, labor markets have undergone structural changes pressuring employers to increase their flexibility to ensure permanence. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structural Models of Network Contacts Between Actors Governed by Activity and Attraction

    Author : Zhi Geng; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Directed graph; Ego-nets; EM algorithm; Gibbs sampling; Multinomial distribution; Hypergeometric distribution; Vertex covariates; Clustering coefficient; Taylor expansion;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers on the subject of statistical modeling of stochastic networks. The NG-model proposed in Paper I combines a block structure with parameters that capture the identities of vertices and thus the new approach stresses the concept of ego-nets, which describes the structure around identified vertices. 3. 3. Random Models in Time and Space with Financial, Economics and Engineering Applications : Structural Covariance in Space and Stochastic Variability in Time

    Author : Nima Shariati; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cross-border spillover; Inter- and intralocation effects; Multivariate spatial regression models; Panel data; Spatial econometric models; Gamma distributed variances; Generalized Laplace distribution; Modulated volatility; Non-Gaussian time series; Road profile; Spatial vector autoregressive model; Outlier; Robust control chart; Robust estimation;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we model stochastic processes in time and space. We focus on the processes whose covariance structure is either changing over the time span, or depends on the location in space. We develop models that appropriately describe and analyze such data behaviors in various different fields including finance, economics and engineering. READ MORE

  4. 4. Essays on Microeconometrics and Immigrant Assimilation

    Author : Alpaslan Akay; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Average marginal effect; Marginal effect of the average individual; Employment and earnings assimilation; Quasi-fixed effects approach; Initial value problem; Dynamic censored random-effects model; Monte Carlo experiment; Heckman’s approximation; Simple method of Wooldridge; Dynamic random-effects sample-selection model; wage-curve method;

    Abstract : Paper I. Asymptotic bias reduction for a conditional marginal effects estimator in sam- ple selection models. In this article we discuss the di¤erences between the average marginal effect and the mar- ginal effect of the average individual in sample selection models, estimated by the Heck- man procedure. 5. 5. On specification and inference in the econometrics of public procurement

    Author : David Sundström; Kurt Brännäs; Sofia Lundberg; Michael Visser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; auctions; dependent variable transformation model; green public procurement; indirect inference; instrumental variable; latent variable; log-generalized gamma distribution; maximum likelihood; measurement error; non-linear least squares; objective effectiveness; orthogonal polynomial regression; prediction; simulation estimation; structural estimation; nationalekonomi; Economics; Econometrics; ekonometri;

    Abstract : In Paper [I] we use data on Swedish public procurement auctions for internal regularcleaning service contracts to provide novel empirical evidence regarding green publicprocurement (GPP) and its effect on the potential suppliers’ decision to submit a bid andtheir probability of being qualified for supplier selection. We find only a weak effect onsupplier behavior which suggests that GPP does not live up to its political expectations. READ MORE
