  1. 16. Connections between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in large-scale natural ecosystems

    Author : James Hagan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; ecology; ecosystem function; ecosystem process;

    Abstract : Billions of years of evolution have given us a planet that supports a remarkable diversity of life. Estimates for the number of Eukaryotic species frequently number in the millions and the Prokaryotes are much more diverse than that. This biodiversity makes up the ecosystems that we, as humans, rely on to sustain almost every aspect of our lives. READ MORE

  2. 17. Element transport in marine coastal ecosystems – modelling general and element-specific mechanisms

    Author : Lena Konovalenko; Clare Bradshaw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Modelling; bioaccumulation; concentration ratio; radionuclides; marine foodweb.; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Understanding the behaviour of naturally-occurring and anthropogenically-derived radionuclides (isotopes) in the marine environment is important, because there is a need for their effective utilization either as in situ tracers or for industry, medical applications, the planning of waste-disposal facilities, and estimations of human and animal health risks. Radionuclides generally have the same chemical properties as their stable element analogues and thus show similar environmental behaviour and cycling to their stable counterparts. READ MORE

  3. 18. Effects of Marine Protected Areas on Tropical Seagrass Ecosystems

    Author : Elisa Alonso Aller; Johan S Eklöf; Charlotte Berkström; Martin Gullström; Glenn Hyndes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal ecosystems; seagrass; marine protected areas; management; conservation; fish; herbivory; Western Indian Ocean; East Africa; tropical; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Seagrass beds are highly productive coastal ecosystems that sustain a rich and diverse associated fauna and flora. Increasing anthropogenic pressures threaten seagrass ecosystems and have already led to major seagrass losses across the world. READ MORE

  4. 19. Biodiversity and ecosystem functions - the importance of marine biodiversity for ecosystem functioning

    Author : Lars Gamfeldt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  5. 20. The monetary value of marine environmental change

    Author : Linus Hasselström; Cecilia Håkansson; Göran Finnveden; Tore Söderqvist; Carl-Johan Lagerkvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Contingent valuation; choice experiment; benefits transfer; cost-benefit analysis; ecosystem services; eutrophication; oil spills; Baltic Sea; Arctic; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : The marine ecosystems are fundamental for human welfare. A number of current environmental pressures need attention, and the formulation of management strategies requires information from a variety of analytical dimensions. The linkage between environmental change and resulting implications for human welfare is one such dimension. READ MORE
