  1. 1. Acquired or inherited prestige? : molecular studies of family structures and local horses in Central Svealand during the Early Medieval period

    Author : Anders Götherström; Mark G. Thomas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ancient DNA; boat cemeteries; Early Medieval Period; Central Svealand; bone preservation; inheritance; acquired status; inherited status; arkeologi; Archaeology;

    Abstract : This is a study of the role of inheritance among the élite in Early Medieval central Svealand and the possibility to study it by molecular genetic methods. The study is a part of the research project Svealand in the Vendel and Viking periods (SIV). The study rests on classical as well as a new type of source material. READ MORE

  2. 2. Proximity Ligation Assay for High Performance Protein Analysis in Medicine

    Author : Gucci Jijuan Gu; Ulf Landegren; Thomas Joos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein; post-translational modification; interactions; protein domain; western blotting; MARK; tau; AD; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : High quality reagents are preconditions for high performance protein analyses. But despite progress in some techniques, e.g. mass spectrometry, there is still a lack of affinity-based detection techniques with enhanced precision, specificity, and sensitivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Improved building energy simulations and verifications by regression

    Author : Jimmy Vesterberg; Thomas Olofsson; Folke Björk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Calibrated simulations; Energy signature; Regression; BES; IDA ICE; Multifamily buildings; EUI;

    Abstract : It is common with significant differences between calculated and actual energy use in the building sector. These calculations are often performed with whole building energy simulation (BES) programs. In this process the analyst must make several assumptions about the studied building and its users. Abstract : In recent years, high arsenic (As) levels of about 300 µg/L have been reported around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara regions within the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in Tanzania. During a sampling campaign at Geita and Mara, the groundwater and surface water samples revealed the presence of high As concentrations as well as Fe and sulfide. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metapopulation ecology of Osmoderma eremita - dispersal, habitat quality and habitat history

    Author : Jonas Hedin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; extinction debt; habitat history; habitat quality; pheromone; telemetry; capture-mark-recapture; metapopulation; dispersal; oak; Osmoderma eremita; beetle; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : This thesis starts with a review of different biodiversity assessment methods in forests and the rest deals with the metapopulation ecology of Osmoderma eremita, a threatened beetle living in hollow trees. I concentrate on the effect of dispersal, habitat quality and habitat history for the presence, population size and future survival of this species. READ MORE
