  1. 1. Characterization of Physiological and Pathological Alpha-Synuclein : Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders

    Author : Leire Almandoz Gil; Joakim Bergström; Martin Ingelsson; Kostas Vekrellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Parkinson’s disease; Dementia with Lewy bodies; Oxidative stress; Antibodies; Synapses; SNARE; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : Aggregated alpha-synuclein is the main component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, intraneuronal inclusions found in the brains of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) patients (synucleinopathies). Alpha-synuclein is a presynaptic protein, which is most commonly an unfolded monomer in its physiological state. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic Studies of Alzheimer's Disease

    Author : Elin Blom; Anna Glaser; Martin Ingelsson; Lars Lannfelt; Jan Hillert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Linkage; Affected sib-pairs; APOE; APP duplication; 10q21; 19q13; Wnt signaling; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi;

    Abstract : Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) often have a family history of the disease, implicating genetics as a major risk factor. Three genes are currently known to cause familial early-onset AD (65 years), only the APOE gene has repeatedly been associated to AD, where the ε4 allele increases disease risk and decreases age at onset. Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease and the major cause of dementia, affecting more than 50 million people worldwide. Chronic pain is long-lasting, persistent pain that affects more than 1.5 billion of the world population. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of α-synuclein Oligomers-with Relevance to Lewy Body Disorders

    Author : Therese Fagerqvist; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Lars Lannfelt; Michael G Schlossmacher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Parkinson´s disease; Lewy body dementia; Oligomer; Monoclonal antibody; Immunotherapy; Reactive aldehydes; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : The protein alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein) accumulates in the brain in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). It is believed that the monomeric form of α-synuclein can adopt a partially folded structure and start to aggregate and form intermediately sized oligomers or protofibrils. READ MORE

  5. 5. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment

    Author : Gabriel Gustafsson; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Tiago F Outeiro; Marina Romero-Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s Disease; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Oligomers; Monoclonal Antibody; Glia; Astrocyte; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. READ MORE
