  1. 1. Characterization of Physiological and Pathological Alpha-Synuclein : Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders

    Author : Leire Almandoz Gil; Joakim Bergström; Martin Ingelsson; Kostas Vekrellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Parkinson’s disease; Dementia with Lewy bodies; Oxidative stress; Antibodies; Synapses; SNARE; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : Aggregated alpha-synuclein is the main component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, intraneuronal inclusions found in the brains of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) patients (synucleinopathies). Alpha-synuclein is a presynaptic protein, which is most commonly an unfolded monomer in its physiological state. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ex‘PLA’ining the progression of pathological proteins in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases : see(d)ing is believing

    Author : Anish Behere; Joakim Bergström; Sara Ekmark-Lewén; Martin Ingelsson; Stina Syvänen; Hilal Lashuel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Alpha synuclein; Tau; Proteoforms; Phosphorylation; Oligomers; Proximity Ligation Assay; sensitive detection of pathology; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson s disease; pS129; pS202 pT205; pT231; PFFs;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the two most common forms of neurodegenerative disorders affecting approximately 50 million people worldwide. The underlying neuropathological processes leading to AD and PD share many similarities, i.e. aberrant protein aggregation of tau and alpha-synuclein (αSyn) in the brain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic Studies of Alzheimer's Disease

    Author : Elin Blom; Anna Glaser; Martin Ingelsson; Lars Lannfelt; Jan Hillert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Linkage; Affected sib-pairs; APOE; APP duplication; 10q21; 19q13; Wnt signaling; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi;

    Abstract : Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) often have a family history of the disease, implicating genetics as a major risk factor. Three genes are currently known to cause familial early-onset AD (65 years), only the APOE gene has repeatedly been associated to AD, where the ε4 allele increases disease risk and decreases age at onset. 4. 4. Pathophysiological effects of alpha-synuclein on SNARE complex proteins in models of alpha-synucleinopathies

    Author : Emma Brolin; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Martin Ingelsson; Arianna Bellucci; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Parkinson’s disease; synaptosome; SNARE complex; proximity ligation assay; extracellular vesicles;

    Abstract : Accumulation and spread of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) aggregates are central to the disease pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, collectively known as α-synucleinopathies. Native α-syn is a monomeric presynaptic protein that can act as a molecular chaperone for the soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor (SNARE) complex assembly. Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease and the major cause of dementia, affecting more than 50 million people worldwide. Chronic pain is long-lasting, persistent pain that affects more than 1.5 billion of the world population. READ MORE
