  1. 11. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction

    Author : Martin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; placenta; Na K ATPase; Na H exchanger; H K ATPase; intrauterine growth restriction; BeWo cells; epithelial transport;

    Abstract : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. READ MORE

  2. 12. Essays on Empirical Macroeconomics

    Author : Martin W Johansson; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic systems; economic theory; econometrics; Economics; structural breaks.; output volatility; threshold autoregression; fiscal policy; real exchange rates; Aggregate consumption; economic policy; Nationalekonomi; ekonometri; ekonomisk teori; ekonomiska system; ekonomisk politik;

    Abstract : The first essay reexamines the proposed presence of so-called loss aversion in aggregate consumption. Recent empirical and theoretical studies have suggested, that consumption growth reacts asymmetrically to positive and negative expected income growth. READ MORE

  3. 13. Wave Splitting and Effective Boundary Conditions for Structural Elements

    Author : Martin Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; approximate boundary condition; Mindlin plate; Timoshenko beam; thin plates; cylindrical coordinates; series approximation; wave splitting; dispersion; fluid-loaded plate; Biot;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is twofold. The first part concerns the wave splitting of structural elements. The second part concerns approximate boundary conditions for fluid-loaded thin plates. Wave splitting is a mathematical tool for the formulation of scattering problems in the time domain that aims at solving inverse problems, e. READ MORE

  4. 14. Evaluating the performance of TEWA systems

    Author : Fredrik Johansson; Göran Falkman; Lars Karlsson; Lars Niklasson; Martin Holmberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air defense; information fusion; performance evaluation; threat evaluation; TEWA; weapon allocation; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Information technology; Informationsteknik; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Datalogi; Computer and Systems Science; Teknik;

    Abstract : It is in military engagements the task of the air defense to protect valuable assets such as air bases from being destroyed by hostile aircrafts and missiles. In order to fulfill this mission, the defenders are equipped with sensors and firing units. To infer whether a target is hostile and threatening or not is far from a trivial task. READ MORE

  5. 15. Distributed Stochastic Programming with Applications to Large-Scale Hydropower Operations

    Author : Martin Biel; Mikael Johansson; Stein W. Wallace; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Stochastic programming is a subfield of mathematical programming concerned with optimization problems subjected to uncertainty. Many engineering problems with random elements can be accurately modeled as a stochastic program. In particular, decision problems associated with hydropower operations motivate the application of stochastic programming. READ MORE
