  1. 1. Structural and functional studies of protein complexes involved in energy metabolism

    Author : Jens Berndtsson; Martin Ott; Irene Diaz-Moreno; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; metabolism; OXPHOS; yeast respiratory supercomplex; cytochrome c; coenzyme Q; pyruvate dehydrogenase complex; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are eukaryotic organelles with a multitude of functions including biosynthesis of molecules and cellular regulation. Most prominently though is their role in energy conversion which culminates with the production of ATP, the universal molecular unit of currency. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanistic Insights in the Biogenesis and Function of the Respiratory Chain

    Author : Hannah Dawitz; Martin Ott; Cristina Ugalde; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; respiratory chain; bc1 complex; cytochrome c oxidase; Cbp3; Rcf1; Rcf2; respiratory supercomplexes; biogenesis; mitochondria; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mitochondria fulfill a plethora of functions, including harboring metabolic pathways and converting energy stored in metabolites into ATP, the common energy source of the cell. This last function is performed by the oxidative phosphorylation system, consisting of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase. READ MORE

  3. 3. Early steps in the biogenesis of the bc1 complex in yeast mitochondria : The role of the Cbp3-Cbp6 complex in cytochrome b synthesis and assembly

    Author : Steffi Gruschke; Martin Ott; Dennis Winge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondria; respiratory chain assembly; bc1 complex; mitochondrial gene expression; translational regulation; hemylation; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The inner membrane of mitochondria harbors the complexes of the respiratory chain and the ATP synthase, which perform the key metabolic process oxidative phosphorylation. These complexes are composed of subunits from two different genetic origins: the majority of constituents is synthesized on cytosolic ribosomes and imported into mitochondria, but a handful of proteins, which represent core catalytic subunits, are encoded in the organellar DNA and translated on mitochondrial ribosomes. 4. 4. Mitochondrial Energy Metabolism : Kgd4 is a novel subunit of the α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex

    Author : Manfred Heublein; Martin Ott; Flavia Fontanesi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondria; α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase; Kgd4; Krebs cycle; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are essential organelles of eukaryotic cells and are responsible for their energy metabolism. The citric acid cycle, a chain of redox reactions in the mitochondrial matrix, is a central metabolic hub. READ MORE

  5. 5. Organization of mitochondrial gene expression in yeast : Specific features of organellar protein synthesis

    Author : Kirsten Kehrein; Martin Ott; Thomas A Fox; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mitochondria; translation; bc1 complex; ribosome; gene expression; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Mitochondria contain their own genetic system, encoding key subunits of the oxidative phosphorylation system. These subunits are expressed by an organelle-specific gene expression machinery. READ MORE
