  1. 1. Regulation of Proton Coupled Electron Transfer from Amino Acids in Artificial Model Systems: A Mechanistic Study

    Author : Martin Sjödin; Leif Hammarström; Jan Davidsson; G. Daniel Nocera; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Proton Coupled Electron Transfer; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Electron Transfer; Hydrogen bond; Photosystem II; Proton transfer; Radical protein; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Amino acid radicals are key redox intermediates in several natural enzymes including Cytochrome c peroxidase, DNA photolyase, ribonucletide reductase, cytochrome c oxidase and photosystem II. Electron transfer from amino acids is often coupled to deprotonation and this thesis concerns the coupling of electron transfer from tyrosine and tryptophan to trisbipyridineruthenium(III) with deprotonation in model complexes. 2. 2. Fiber-Optic Systems with Coherent Detection and Four-Dimensional Modulation

    Author : Martin E Sjödin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; intradyne; polarization-switched QPSK; quadrature phase-shift keying QPSK ; coherent detection; self-homodyne; wavelength-division multiplexing; 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation; self-phase modulation; 128-SP-QAM; polarization multiplexing; pilot tone;

    Abstract : To increase the data rates of fiber-optic communication systems, modulation formats withhigher spectral efficiency and/or higher power efficiency than binary formats are of greatinterest. These formats require coherent detection and this thesis has been dedicated toinvestigating both novel modulation formats and two different types of coherent systems. READ MORE

  3. 3. Self-Homodyne Coherent Systems using Advanced Modulation Formats

    Author : Martin E Sjödin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Modulation formats that offer high spectral efficiency will be of great importance in future fiber optic communication systems. Currently, a lot of research effortsare ongoing to investigate the best ways of generating and detecting modulation formats in which both the phase and the amplitude of the light are used to carry information, such as 16-QAM. 4. 4. Managing open innovation in process industries

    Author : David Rönnberg Sjödin; Martin Sköld; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Open Innovation; Collaborative Development; Process Industries; Buyer-Supplier Relationships; Process Equipment; Lifecycle Stages; Stage-Gate; Entreprenörskap och innovation; Entrepreneurship and Innovation;

    Abstract : The concept of open innovation has received increased attention among practitioners as well as in academia in recent years. It provides a conceptual platform for understanding how external sources of knowledge drive internal growth. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of Selection and Demography on DNA Polymorphism in Black Mustard (Brassica nigra)

    Author : Per Sjödin; Martin Lascoux; Ulf Lagercrantz; Mikkel Schierup; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; population genetics; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik;

    Abstract : The evolution of three genes from the CONSTANS-LIKE gene family is studied in Brassica nigra. We use a combination of population genetic and phylogenetic techniques in order to assess the relative importance of selection and demography on the pattern of DNA variation. READ MORE
