  1. 1. Architectural Aspects of Massive Timber - The Potential of Massive Timber Structures

    Author : Andreas Falk; KTH; []
    Keywords : Massive timber; surface elements; systems; co-action; interactivity; holism; arcitectural language;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns architecturalutilising of new plate-like timber-products. It has beenperformed at the Division of Building Engineering at KTH Schoolof Architecture, Royal Institute of Technology inStockholm. READ MORE

  2. 2. Architectural aspects of massive timber : structural form and systems

    Author : Andreas Falk; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träbyggnad; Timber Structures;

    Abstract : The hypothesis of this thesis is that there are rational, technical and architectural gains to be made from interactively developed architectural and structural utilisation of massive timber plates. The aim is to study and describe architectural features of structural applications of massive timber and ways to utilise and develop timber-based plates in building applications by combining an architectural and a structural engineering perspective. 4. 4. The hygrothermal inertia of massive timber connstructions

    Author : Stéphane Hameury; Ove Söderström; Carsten Rode; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 1H MRI; Building simulation environment; Heat buffering capacity; Heavy timber construction; Indoor climate; In-situ measurement; Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Building manufacturing engineering; Byggproduktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this Doctoral dissertation concerns the ability of heavy timber structures to passively reduce the fluctuations of the indoor temperature and of the indoor relative humidity, through the dynamic process of heat and moisture storage in wood. We make the hypothesis that the potential offered by the hygrothermal inertia of heavy timber structures is significant, and that it could provide a passive way of regulating the indoor climate. 5. 5. Variations in sound insulation in lightweight timber constructions

    Author : Rikard Öqvist; Christian Simmons; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk akustik; Engineering Acoustics;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis deals with the topic of variations and uncertainties in building acoustic parameters for lightweight timber constructions. A higher safety margin to the legal requirements is needed to compensate for acoustical uncertainties, which leads to higher costs. READ MORE
